AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas at Austin is Texas’ premier public research university, home to more than 50,000 students, 2,700 faculty members and 19,000 staffers. In December 2012, about 3,100 students received degrees.
The following student from your area graduated from The University of Texas at Austin last fall: Taylor Summy, daughter of Curt and Rita Summy of Johnson City, has earned a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology with all-level teacher certification.

Elaine Swiss spoke to the Hill Country Spurs 4-H Club this month to invite members and parents to a free competitive trail clinic for area junior riders, aged 10-18, on Saturday, February 9 at the Swiss Ranch in Round Mountain. More than 20 club members learned the basics of competitive trail and what to expect at the clinic which is offered in conjunction with the North American Trail Ride Conference (NATRC) Region 4 Convention and Annual Awards Banquet.

An annual scholarship is awarded to a senior from Johnson City ISD and a senior from Blanco ISD whose Parents are members of Blanco County Farm Bureau.
“Youth are the future of agriculture, and the Farm Bureau invests a substantial amount of time and money in youth leadership development,” said Blanco County Farm Bureau Director Adrian Schulze.

The International Pageant System recognizes women of all ages for their accomplishments, and their desire to make a difference in their communities.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Crawford are pleased to announce the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Sheala Crawford, to Whitt Eakman, son of Hollis Eakman and Connie Eakman. Sheala is a 2007 graduate of Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She is employed by Creative Awards in Fredericksburg.

Students achieving the Dean’s List for the 2012 fall semester have been announced by Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.
To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must be enrolled fulltime at ASU and must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Christopher J.

JOHNSON CITY: Erin Obrien, College of Science and Technology, Environmental Science
To qualify, undergraduates must be enrolled full time with a minimum of 12 semester hours and must earn a grade point average of 3.65 or better on a 4.0 scale.
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is a four-year university and part of The Texas A&M University System.

Blanco ISD Project Graduation 2013 sponsored a Dodgeball Tournament on Sunday afternoon, January 20. Eight teams battled for the championship. The winning team was an entry from Johnson City. Team members pictured are Jacob Wagner, Garrett DeLeon, Will Rutherford, Jake Rassett, Michael Maenius, and Preston Workman.

Saturday, January 26th First Baptist Church will host their 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off, Bake-Off and Silent Auction to benefit youth activities this year. Enter your favorite chili or dessert or just come for an evening of fun and good food, there is a $5.00 entry fee.
It all starts at 4:00 pm with entries for the chili & baked items.

Texas A&M University has named its honor students for the fall semester, recognizing them for outstanding academic performance. The Dean’s Honor Roll recognizes students taking at least 15 semester hours during the fall semester who have maintained a 3.75 or higher grade point (GPR) out of a possible 4.0.
