The Youth Community Assistance Program (YCAP) of Johnson City is pleased to announce their next epic event! On Saturday, March 17th they will host an “End of Spring Break Luau” for the middle school students (grades 5-8) from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. The party is completely free to everyone! Young people are encouraged to dress in grass skirts, leis, and coconuts and come ready to have fun.

Each year Texas art lovers flock to the Bunkhouse Fine Art and Jewelry Show in Cypress Mill, southeast of Marble Falls. This 20th show will feature more than 30 Hill Country and Austin area artists. Juried artworks cover the spectrum: oils, pastels, watercolor, ceramic, mixed media, abstracts, impressionistic, and realistic works jump off the walls.

Join us on Sunday, March 25th for a scrumptious homemade Mexican dinner. Serving begins at 11am and continues until 2pm or sold out. Donations for lunch will be accepted at the door. Menu includes cheese enchiladas, tamale, taco, rice, beans, tortilla, homemade salsa, and a dessert. You may dine in or to go plates will be available.

The Garden Club met last Thursday for their March meeting at the Johnson City Library. After a brief business meeting the program was turned over to Joe Patterson who gave a very entertaining presentation on the Gardens in China. The members were surprised at how beautiful, well kept, the gardens were, the Chinese people are very proud of these gardens and love having people see them.

Calling all basketball players … regardless of ability, fitness level or age. A tournament will be held Wednesday, March 21st at Center Point High School. It’s a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament to raise funds for the 2012 Heroes Campaign, designed to increase awareness of the services provided by the American Red Cross and to have some fun!

On Thursday, February 16th, the Hill Country Spurs 4-H horse judging teams competed in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Horse Judging Competition. Senior team 1 members Kendra Smith, Emily Masters, Rilee Moser and Rachel Harlin placed 2nd out of 166 teams and placed 1st in District 10. This team will go to Lubbock in June to compete in the Texas 4-H State Horse Judging competition.

The Blanco County Historical Commission will meet Thursday, March 8, at 6pm in the Hoppe Room at the Blanco County Annex in Johnson City. The commission will have their regular business meeting, reports on the Blanco Cemetery, Post Oak Cemetery and School, and Sandy School House. Commission members will be asked to vote on the 2012 project; the commission is preparing to keep a record of everyone buried in all of the county’s cemeteries and burial places, with a specific recognition of ...

Hochheim Prairie Farm Mutual Insurance gives back to the community for each policy holder in Branch 157 which covers the Blanco county area. The disbursements of these funds for 2012 were given to the Blanco County 4H Clubs, Johnson City Community Education Foundation, Blanco County Welfare Board, Blanco County Disaster Relief Group, Johnson City Library, Blanco County Youth Council and Blanco South Library District.

The Library’s March “Volunteer of the Month” is David Hamm. David was chosen because he and wife Susan have worked extra hard this month sprucing up the landscaping beds at the Library. David dug, planted, watered, and put in the new fountain in front of the Library. He also climbed up and took the long overdue Christmas lights down.
