The sixth annual Johnson City Open Championship Golf Tournament was held this past week-end at "Vaaler Creek" Golf course in Blanco. Thirty golfers from the Johnson City area participated in the event. Founders of the event felt that it would be a great way for local residents to "get to know"

Hill Country Memorial’s Cancer Resource Center (CRC) will present a program showing how to get the most out of summer’s fresh fruits and vegetables. The class will be Thursday, June 17, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the CRC’s first-floor facility in the Brune Professional Building, 808 Reuben Street in Fredericksburg.
The Second Act Troupe will present more live theatre in Johnson City at 3 pm on Sunday June 13 in the Activity Center of the United Methodist Church. The Johnson City Library Civil War Roundtable held it’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 25th. Mr. Wayne Guenter of Granite Shoals presented a superb program on Civil War currency, focusing on Confederate bills, scripts and bank notes. Mr. Guenter was extremely knowledgeable and brought some samples of his collection of currency to show the 20 people in attendance. Mr.
Music from the movies is the theme for the summer’s free family movies at Johnson City’s First United Methodist Church. The three monthly films are all musicals, pulled from three different periods to catch some of the top musical performers in Hollywood. The first is the classic, "Singin’ in the Rain", starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor.

Many of you visited the Library during our recent Book Sale to benefit the Friends of the Library, we have some good news. We sold $1,117.00 in books, DVD’s, and games, our silent auction brought in $285.00, for a total of $1,402.00. That was wonderful, but not only did we make the money to pay toward the debt on the Library, we got to meet many of you, hear outstanding comments about our Library, and bring smiles to our customers! The Blanco County Extension Education Association’s annual Spring Luncheon was held on April 22nd at the Gem of the Hills Citizen Center in Blanco.
Cat owners residing in Blanco County can apply for $25.00 vouchers from the Blanco County Cat Coalition, Inc. (BCCC) to pay for part of the cost of spaying or neutering their pet cats. There are a limited number of vouchers that are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Owners need to make appointments with their regular veterinarians for the spaying/neutering and take their cats and pick them up when the surgery is over.
