The Johnson City Library wrapped up its first session of Sit, Stay, Read. The library went to the dogs every Wednesday afternoon as children came and read many books to their canine friends. The idea is to allow the children to read to the service dogs which helps them with concentration, patience and having fun while reading.

The Hill Country 100 Club, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, is announcing a one-time $25,000 donation to various law enforcement agencies that have lost their Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (LEOSE) training funds as a result of the Texas’ 82nd Legislative Session’s budget reductions. Statewide the 82nd Legislature eliminated $12 million in LEOSE funds that normally would assist local training.
Calling all teens! Ring in the New Year at YCAP’s Second Annual New Year’s Eve Epic Event. The Youth Community Assistance Program of JC (YCAP) is hosting a Middle School event which starts at 6pm and features free food, table game tournaments (pool, ping-pong, foosball and air hockey) and a bounce house (weather permitting).

The Round Mountain Extension Education Club gathered at the home of Jacqueline May to enjoy their traditional Christmas luncheon. Fifteen members and one guest arrived at the beautifully decorated home at 11:30 on December 14. After visiting we played 3 games that worked our brain. Some of us are really good at remembering Christmas carols and working out riddles.

The Johnson City Quilter’s Guild held their Christmas party in the lovely home of Nancy Talley. They exchanged gifts and had refreshments. AT THE LIBRARY.....This past weekend was the annual Friends of the Library Half Price Book Sale. They raised over $400 with the sale of gently used books plus some folks generously made cash donations. Locals and tourist benefitted from the used book sale.NEW COMPUTERS...... The Library has received a grant for new computers they will be ready for use this Thursday.
Members of the Pleasant Hill - Rocky Community Club are announcing the distribution of $5,800 raised at this year’s annual benefit dinner, the Smorgasbord, which was held on November 5th. As in previous years, the major donations went to the North Blanco County EMS ($1,250), the Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department ($1,250), and the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department ($1,250).
We are truly grateful for the blessings bestowed on our community and we wish to share the good news with our larger community. We are proud to announce that the Post Oak Community Association is now a non-profit association organized mainly to restore and preserve our historic school house circa 1873, then known as Post Oak School District #17 for grades 1 through 12..

On Saturday, Nov. 12th, the Blanco County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Unit along with members from TEXSAR participated in a training exercise at Pedernales Falls State Park. The exercise involved searching for a lost couple in the park, practicing using their new equipment, and communication skills. They exercise was a success and everyone left feeling more prepared for when the call comes for them to assist in a search and rescue.
Despite the threat of clouds, more than 100 people enjoyed an educational and entertaining evening on Saturday, November 19th as Blanco State Park hosted a “Stars in the Park” event. As if on cue, the clouds that were present all day disappeared just in time for the long anticipated event to have a clear sky full of brilliant stars.
