Ever hear of a “laundry kit”? Neither had the Missions Committee at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, until the call came for them. The problem is that hundreds of Hurricane Ike evacuees still are stranded in Central Texas, still being told their homes are unsafe to return to.

Grab your boots and don your cowboy hat on Saturday, Nov. 8 for the Second Annual Cowboy Up for Kids event, benefiting the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center and child victims in the Center’s seven county service area. Cowboy Up for Kids will be held from 6-10pm at Boulder Creek Farms, located seven miles east of Marble Falls on FM 1431.

The November meeting of the Johnson City Woman’s Civic Club was held in the beautiful clubhouse of The Preserve at Walnut Springs on Monday, October 27, 2008. Hostesses Betty McNallen, Margaret Bamberger, Ingrid Moursund and Patsy Simpson served a feast of delicious Chinese food : egg rolls, rice, stir-fry vegetables, slaw, and sweet and sour chicken.

Last Wednesday with a light rain falling, the library tour bus loaded up with passengers and headed to Austin. No one was complaining about the rain, it was a much needed added attraction. Our first stop in Austin was the Texas Military Museum at Camp Mabry, we hadn’t scheduled much time for this stop, but it was very interesting, and most agreed deserves a return trip. Next we headed for the Zilker Botanical Gardens.

Reminder...There is going to be a Senior Parents & Students meeting Sunday Nov 2nd 4-6pm at the high school to continue discussing Senior Serve and Project Graduation.

The Community Garden Club met last Thursday at the Johnson Settlement at the LBJ National Park. Thirty six ladies including two guests were welcomed to the settlement colorfully decorated for fall and Halloween. Our new President, Pearl Hedlund opened the meeting, she asked our program chairperson Jean Anderson to introduce our program for the day.

The first annual BOOTS ‘N BLOCKS QUILT SHOW will be held in Bandera, Texas on Saturday, October 18 from 10 AM till 5 PM, and again on Sunday, October 19, from 1 PM till 6 PM. The event will take place at the Noah’s Ark Daycare Center located at 467 N.

Have you ever wanted to do something in just black and whites? They make fascinating quilts. Here are a few tips for working with black and whites. 1.Lay out the fabrics you are considering for your quilt top. Walk away and leave them for awhile. Go back to them and remove the ones that don’t seem to fit.

Members of the Johnson City Woman’s Civic Club met on Monday evening at the First Baptist Church to begin the 2008/2009 year. Hostesses Charlotte Matthews, Joycelyn Carter, Ronna Owen, Norma Kinchen, and Patty Carpenter prepared a delicious build-your-own taco and rice dish topped off with coconut and pecans. President Cynthia Keene presided over the meeting and introduced two new members: Karen Brugnoli and Bambi Haley, and Patsy Simpson was welcomed back having previously been a member. Saturday, November 8 is Moving Day for the JC Library!

All the hard work from volunteers and guild members paid off Saturday morning when as soon as the doors opened at 8:45 am, people started coming in. With over 300 people passing through the doors and 18 door prizes given away, the ladies of Johnson City Quilt Guild were kept very busy.
