In keeping with the historic Head-of-State barbecues held on the LBJ Ranch during the Lyndon B. Johnson presidency of the 1960’s; the National Park Service is hosting a Barbecue on the LBJ Ranch on May 5, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The 1960’s barbecues always included good entertainment and tasty food.
Retired Pedernales Electric Cooperative board president R.B. Tracy A. Byerly, II, M.D., has joined Hill Country Primary Care Physicians. Otolaryngology or ENT (ear, nose and throat) is the branch of medicine and surgery that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, throat, and head and neck disorders. Dr. Byerly received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School (UTMS) at Houston in 2002.
Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center is inviting prospective triathletes, Masters competitive swimmers and adult fitness swimmers to participate in a three-week, six-session class in “Total Immersion” taught by U.S. Masters Swim Coach, Alan Carr. Total Immersion is an approach to swimming perfected by nationally renowned triathlon swim coach Terry Laughlin.

Eligible Pedernales Electric Cooperative members interested in running for a position on the Co-op’s Board of Directors can now obtain the petition materials needed to seek the nomination. PEC directors are democratically elected by the Cooperative’s membership. Positions up for election in 2012 are District 1 director, District 6 director and District 7 director.

Mason, Texas – Treasured Texan, Jaston Williams, actor, writer and exceptional storyteller, will be coming to Mason on January 28th to help ‘Save The Odeon Theater’ with a local performance of excerpts from his one-man show ‘Blame it on Valentine, Texas,’ a VIP Cocktail Party and an acting-writing workshop for Hill Country area students and actors.
CASA for the Highland Lakes Area is forming its first training class of 2012. CASA is a non-profit organization that speaks up for the best interest of abused and neglected children in Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano, and San Saba counties. A CASA volunteer is appointed by a judge to provide factual information on behalf of a child caught in a difficult legal process.
Texas continues to do its part to keep helping military veterans and their families. A full homestead property tax exemption that began in 2009 to help totally disabled military veterans will extend to their surviving spouses after January 1.“This new provision will help families who have been a part of the tremendous sacrifice that veterans have given our country,” said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.
