The Lady Eagles JV team played Canyon Lake last week. The Lady Eagles started off strong getting an early lead 8-2 going into the second quarter. After that Canyon Lake turned up the defense and came away with a 36-12 defeat of the Eagles. Leading scorer was Hailey Hernandez, with a good defensive contribution by Katelyn Barrientes.
The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team advanced to the finals of the annual Johnson City Invitational tournament this past weekend, winning two games on the first day of the tournament before falling to the Jarrell Cougars in the finals on Saturday afternoon, December 3. This is the first time in many years the Eagles boys basketball team has advanced to the championship game of this highly competitive tournament.
The Johnson City Middle School Eagles faced off against the Punchers in the Mason High School gymnasium on Monday. In a defensive struggle, where points came at a premium for both sides, the game proved to be a heated battle between evenly matched teams. After being down at half time, it looked like more of the same starting the third period.
This last weekend the Lady Eagles competed in the annual LBJ Invitational tournament in Johnson City. There were a total of 12 games on the girls side of the tournament, culminating in the last four games which decided the place of each team. In the seventh place game. The Lady Eagles were defeated by Lago Vista by a score of 54 to 24.
The “B” team fought hard against Mason last night but unfortunately lost the game 0-47. Great rebounding by Karli Metcalf and Cassie Braun helped the ladies on defense. Jenna Vasquez and Alyssa Rose showed great dribbling skills as the team’s point guards. The “A” team also lost to Mason 17-53.
The LBJ varsity boys basketball team won in thrilling fashion last Tuesday evening, November 22 on a half court buzzer beater by Juan Alvarez. The basket which banked off the backboard and went in as time expired led the Eagles to the 53-50 victory over Hill Country Christian of San Marcos.

The LBJ Lady Eagle varsity cross country team concluded their historic season this past week by participating in the UIL State Cross Country meet at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock on Saturday, November 12. The Eagles qualified for the state meet by winning the Region IV-1A championship on November 5 in San Antonio.
The Lady Eagles came into the state meet riding the high of a 70 point victory at regionals and a 39 point victory at the District 29-1A meet on October 26.
