The Lady Eagles made the best of their holiday break celebrating with family, squeezing in three practices and playing the most complete game they had played all season long. The Lady Eagles defeated Heritage Christian by a final score of 42 to 18. This is the first time since the 2008-2009 season that the Lady Eagles held an opponent to under 20 points in a game.
Coach Natalie Voron leads the 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams in a few carols at the LBJ Nursing Home. The teams started the tradition last year. It brings many smiles to the residents at the nursing home when the girls come to sing and share homemade cookies and treats.
The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team gave themselves a nice early Christmas gift last Friday at LBJ gym with an exciting 51-44 victory over the Lago Vista Vikings. The win improves the Eagles record to 6-6 on the season. LBJ played inspired ball throughout the game jumping out to a 16-6 lead after the first period.
The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team competed in the Center Point tournament this past weekend playing 3 games in 2 days. The Eagles defeated the Center Point JV team on Saturday, December 10 by a score of 51-13. Wyatt Eubanks led all Eagle scorers with 14 points followed by Jade Cones with 12 points and Chase Klaerner with 8 points.
GIRLS: The Lady Eagles “B” team fought hard but fell to Medina 10-15. Top scorers were Bailey Pena and Emily Matjeka who both scored 4 points. Cassie Braun also sunk one for 2 points. Skylar McKennis was fantastic on defense and deflected many of Medina’s shots. Alyssa Rose and Kaitlyn Arvesen also kept Medina from scoring more with their great defense!
The Lady Eagles played Canyon Lake at home again this year for the Hoops for Hope Game. All of the proceeds from the game and the t-shirt sales this year will be donated to the American Cancer Society to supplement breast cancer research. The Lady Eagles had trouble getting their offense started and wound up down by sixteen points at the half.
The Lady Eagles JV team played Canyon Lake last week. The Lady Eagles started off strong getting an early lead 8-2 going into the second quarter. After that Canyon Lake turned up the defense and came away with a 36-12 defeat of the Eagles. Leading scorer was Hailey Hernandez, with a good defensive contribution by Katelyn Barrientes.
The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team advanced to the finals of the annual Johnson City Invitational tournament this past weekend, winning two games on the first day of the tournament before falling to the Jarrell Cougars in the finals on Saturday afternoon, December 3. This is the first time in many years the Eagles boys basketball team has advanced to the championship game of this highly competitive tournament.
The Johnson City Middle School Eagles faced off against the Punchers in the Mason High School gymnasium on Monday. In a defensive struggle, where points came at a premium for both sides, the game proved to be a heated battle between evenly matched teams. After being down at half time, it looked like more of the same starting the third period.
