The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball finished up their first round of district play this past Friday, Feb 3 with a 44-20 victory over the Center Point Pirates on parent’s night. The first quarter was very tight but the Eagles outscored Center Point 12-4 in the second quarter for a 21-11 halftime lead.
The Lady Eagles Middle School basketball team played in a tournament in Mason this past weekend. The Lady Eagles “B” team won their first game in the tournament against Medina 16-15. Top scorers were Kaitlyn Arveson and Skylar McKennis who both scored 4 points. Dominique Requenes, Karli Metcalf, and Alyssa Rose also scored 2 points.
The Johnson City Eagles MS teams competed this week in the District 29A tournament held in Mason. The seventh grade boys competed first against a Pirates team who played the Eagles well and kept the score close throughout. Kyle Porter sank a 3 pointer as the first half expired to give the Eagles an 18-15 advantage at half time.

Kaitlyn Arvesen looks for an open player down court. Lady Eagles “B” team played a very tough game last night but lost to Mason 8-33. Fantastic rebounding from Dominique Requenes and Skylar McKennis plus great defensive play from Karli Metcalf rounded out the Lady Eagle defense. Top scorer for the evening was Skylar McKennis who scored 4 points followed be Dominique Requenes and Jazmin who both scored 2 points.
Kyle Porter takes the ball to the basket against the whole Mason team. The Boys 7th grade team had an incredible overtime victory last night 37-32. Top scorer was Walt Maenius who had 9 points, followed by Steven Barrientes with 8 points. Kyle Porter also had 6 points while Cesar Alvarez and Willie Miertschin both had 5 points for the evening.
Kaity Helpenstell battles it out for the tie ball. The Lady Eagles “A” team also played a tough game against Mason but also fell 19-40. Great three-point shooting from Kailey Ockman coupled with her 2 point baskets totaled 11 points while the next top scorer was Audrey Capra with 4 points.
Dawson Hernandez powers up for the jump shot. The 8th grade boys also went into a very tense overtime game but lost by only 2 points, 30-32. The game was a nail-biter till the end but Aidan Berry kept the game on our side with incredible 3 points shots –he scored 12 points overall – and Dawson Hernandez also had an incredible game with 9 points.

In an open week match up, the Johnson City Eagles 7th grade boys travelled to Dripping Springs to take on the Tigers. The Eagles played hard and fought for many loose balls. Walt Maenius and Jesus Zavala led the charge on defense, swatting away ill-fated passes and getting on the floor after the loose ball.
The LBJ Eagles ended their non district season this past Friday, November 19 with a victory over the San Antonio Lutheran Mustangs in San Antonio, 58-48. The Eagles got off to a fast start breaking the Mustang press and converting the break into baskets. The scoring success continued in the second half as LBJ continued to dominate play on the offensive and defensive end.

The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team suffered a close, tough loss to the Harper Longhorns this past Tuesday, January 10 at LBJ gym. The Eagles controlled the first half taking a 27-18 lead at halftime. However, LBJ suffered a scoring slump throughout much of the second half while Harper caught fire from 3 point range and came away with a 46-40 victory.
