The Johnson City Eagle baseball team won first place in the annual Johnson City tournament held this past weekend. The Eagles managed to keep their undefeated record intact as they won three games against Harper, Round Rock Christian and Florence. In the first game of the tournament, JC faced the Harper Longhorns and defeated them by a score of 15-0.
Johnson City’s baseball team continued their season Tuesday night with a 24-1 victory over the Ingram Warriors. With the victory, the Eagles ran their season record to 7-0. Luke Neely started on the mound for the Eagles and went three strong innings before being relieved by Kris McDonald and Treyler Caulfield.
The District 27-AA honors were released last week. The Lady Eagles were well represented, posting as many athletes as their 1st place district rivals Harper. Kayla Jernigan (15 points per game, 3.5 steals per game, 6 rebounds per game), Adrienne Pabon (8 points per game, 2.5 steals per game, 9 rebounds per game) and Kelya Jureczki (3 assists per game, 4 steals per game) all were awarded 1st team honors.
The Lady Eagles played in a softball tournament in Blanco March 4-6. Thursday they defeated the Fredericksburg JV team 8-3, Lago Vista 9-3, and St. Andrew’s 6-1. Saturday, the Lady Eagles played the Championship game against Blanco and lost 4-0. During the tournament, incredible defense was played by Adrienne Pabon, Tamara Nacel, Elizabeth O’ Day, and Brittany Harris. The Johnson City Eagle Baseball team won first place in the Navarro Tournament this past weekend. The Eagles beat Poth, Lago Vista, and Luling to win their first 3 games of the season. Johnson City’s first game was a 17-4 victory over the Poth Pirates. Cody Smith started on the mound for JC and went 3 strong innings scattering 3 hits.
The Johnson City Eagle tennis team traveled to Mason on Thursday to compete in the Spring Smash Invitational. There were 18 schools represented with nearly 200 matches played. In Singles play, Jacob Sisson, Jacob Barbieri, and Samantha Preece played on the doubles side while Chris Eddy and Sergio Alvarado teamed up in doubles.
The LBJ Middle School Eagles did a great job at their first track meet last Friday night. The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team concluded their 2009-2010 basketball season this past Tuesday evening, February 16 with a close loss at Comfort, falling to the Bobcats 40-38. The Eagles held a slim 14-10 lead aft halftime. In the 3rd period each team picked up the tempo on offense and Comfort came out of the period with a 32-27 lead.

The LBJ Eagle boys basketball team lost 2 tough, thrilling games this past week. On Friday evening, they took on the state ranked Randolph Ro-Hawks. The Eagles got off to a good start taking a 14-12 lead after the first period and a 24-18 halftime lead. Randolph cut into the lead in the 3rd period and the 4th quarter was a tense, tight affair.

The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team closed out the first round of district play last Friday evening with a thrilling 47-40 victory over the Comfort Bobcats. Kris McDonald & London McQueen convert 6 of 8 free throws in the final minute to help the Eagles claim the victory. Comfort had cut the Eagles lead to 41-40 with less then 30 seconds left before McDonald & McQueen converted their free throw attempts to ensure the win.
