FFA Officers serve their school and community, every chance they get. So to start off the school year the Johnson City FFA Officers (Zachary Denton, Noel Porter, Shania Dubose, Chandler Wagner, Ashley Bargsley, Slater Sultemeier, Melinda Holdridge, Kendra Smith, Garrett Deike, & Kelly Wright), cooked their Annual Breakfast for Teachers on Friday August 27th.
Kelya Jureczki was presented the first annual Sharon Fussell Scholarship in the amount of $2000. It is a scholarship based on academics, athletics, and community service. This scholarship was made possible by the Sharon Fussell family and contributions by the Chevron Matching Gift Program. Kelya is attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Six high school students in Pedernales Electric’s service area will win a trip to Washington, D.C., as part of PEC’s 2011 Youth Tour Contest. Students on the annual Youth Tour learn about electric cooperatives, American history and U.S. government; participate in National Youth Day; visit with their House and Senate representatives; and explore historic sites around Washington, D.C. Preliminary counts of 692 students headed back to class at Johnson City Independent School District on Monday morning to being the 2010-2011 school year. Meet the Teacher night was held last Thursday for Elementary and Middle School. This helped the students get situated and understand the process of the first day better. High School students were allowed to pick up schedules the whole week prior to classes starting.
There are different types of leaders in this world, just as every person has a different definition for leadership. Johnson City Independent School District today announced its policy for providing free and reduced-price meals for students served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program. Each school and the central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party. The household size and income criteria identified below will be used to determine eligibility for free and reduced-price benefits.

In about 18 days, the bells will ring yet again to mark the start of the 2010-2011 school year for the Johnson City ISD. However, the school district has already received some exciting news from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). On Friday, July 30th the TEA released their 2010 school ratings for the state.
Seniors don’t forget this Saturday you will need to have your senior pictures taken at the high school commons area. If you have not been notified by Lifetouch of when your appointment time is, please call the high school office and find out. Remember you need to come and have your picture taken even if you do not intend to purchase any packages so you will be included in the yearbook. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to call the office.
