Opinion & Letters
Dear Editor;
In response to the article in your Feb 10th issue titled "What to Do With a Pot of Money", I would like to offer one correction: in the Feb 8th Commissioner’s Court meeting the amount in the Appraisal District account of the Agency Fund was said to be $285,000 - not $85,000 as reported in the newspaper article.
Second, I would like to address some of the issues presented in the article.

Dear Editor,
It does not surprise me how much the Johnson City community thought of Mr. Dwayne Hoppe. I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Hoppe about five years ago, and even though I only saw him mostly during hunting season, I felt really attached to him. My wife and I hunt the counts ranch, and he ran cattle on the neighboring ranch.

Dear Editor,
Loughner, the Tucson shooter, is not the only person to subscribe to the idea that violence is an acceptable political tactic if voting doesn’t get the desired results. This is one in a string of events with this singular theme. Besides, who said he is one "unbalanced" gunman? That is just a convenient diagnosis.
We need to take Loughner seriously because he is the most recent of a long list of similar attacks with n ...

Dear Editor,
Almost every newscast I watch and newspaper I read contains stories of thieves, robbers, and scammers. But there are still honest people among us, I learned last Wednesday, two of them at the Valero service station on Highway 281 in Johnson City.

Dear Editor,
We’ve lost another good guy, and way too soon. If you didn’t know Dwayne Hoppe, or never heard him, crow like a rooster because you’ve been under a rock sound asleep.
Dwayne was a true character in the very best sense of the word. He was one-of-a-kind and there won’t be another.

Dear Editor,
Let me start out by saying it took me awhile to calm down enough before I could write this. I have lived in Johnson City for over 17 years and at the same address for over 11 years. I am truly amazed that I have to deal with this issue from neighbors.

We Must Be Observant
Dear Editor,
I have a question to ask you. How safe are we, living in our home? I am talking about a young family who did live south of town being victimized by a person or persons unknown. There have been several reports of attempted break-ins, screen tampered with and removed and a robbery took place during day light hours when the family was not home.

Dear Editor,
It would be a near tragedy if Johnson City were to abandon the Recycling Center. With environmental awareness increasing, we have seen the appreciation and the use of the Center grow. It should not be looked as a service of government, but a service so very necessary to maintaining an attractive village and a reputation befitting the birthplace of President Johnson.

Dear Editor,
Senator Troy Fraser and Representative Patrick Rose have really been cranking up the volume in their attack on the PEC. At the August PEC Board meeting they denounced the Board – one which, for the first time, was elected by PEC owners (that is, its members). During his comments, Fraser threatened to dissolve or "break-up"

What makes a teacher chose a career that requires spending eight hours a day with twenty one children? Just imagine; take even your best child (or grandchild), multiply by twenty-one and then imagine spending every day, eight hours a day with each and every one of them for about nine months out of the year.
