Has Johnson City become a Speed Trap??? Dear Editor, I’ve noticed lately that Johnson City appears to have become, or is becoming, a “speed trap”. Here lately, you can’t drive through town during the day without seeing a certain officer hiding out near El Charro and Lindig Equipment stopping cars non-stop for long periods of time.

To the people of Johnson City: We really appreciate the community for showing your support by coming out to our ribbon cutting and opening party at Kirchman Gallery 2 in Johnson City last Saturday. We are guessing that we had over 300 people in attendance over the course of the open house.

Dear Editor: Kudos to Marion Hoy for her line article, “The Bullies Among Us.” It takes courage to face a problem like this and not just sweep it under the carpet. My grandson had fears about entering middle school because of the stories about how older kids would beat up the younger ones, stealing their lunch money, backpacks, and self-esteem.

Who said one could not make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear? Well it appears the Kirchman Gallery people have done just that. I haven’t been in their new place of business on Highway 290 W where the Laundromat used to be but if the outside is any indication of what is inside, it must be really wonderful.

School’s back in session! Most kids are excited about football games, school dances, and getting together with old friends. An air of anticipation hangs over the heads of our young students, after all, what’s more exciting than the promise of scholastic discovery that accompanies a new school year? Those are things that excite most kids, but what about the kids who are hesitant about beginning a new school year?

But these guys go a step beyond: This construction crew has hit waterlines on MULTIPLE occasions, killed limbs out of our trees, and left my yard flooded with thick construction mud twice after rains.

The image of Texas around the world often centers on a cowboy herding longhorns or a roughneck working on an oil rig. Texans cherish their western, and oil and gas heritage, but we also know that no single portrait can capture the diversity of our land, our people and our traditions. In Texans One and All, John L.

Dear Editor: There is a new face at Dairy Queen these days and that new face is Robyn Henderson. She wasn’t there today when I went in to check this out, but I was still greeted by a familiar face, that of Faye Lechow. Faye tells me she will still be there and that she isn’t going anywhere.

The average Texas family now spends around $100 to fill up its truck or SUV, so imagine the financial burden confronting our nation’s air carriers, as they struggle to fuel their fleets amid soaring energy costs – a 737 aircraft burns more than 885 gallons of jet fuel per hour at cruising altitude.

JC FFA Annual Convention Last week the Johnson City FFA went to Lubbock for their annual convention. There were 10,000 students from all over the state of Texas that attended. I can truly say that I was overcome with all these wonderful teenagers. Our school sent 11 students with their Ag teachers and two chaperones.
