The porch hasn’t changed much. We still sit and visit and tell big tales and laugh as much as we can. This being Monday and guess what folks, it is raining. I really cannot complain about the rain, first of all, because I love it and second of all, because I remember not too long ago when we really needed rain.
Because
A girl and her dog
If you know my littlest one, Shay (1st grader), you know her animal friends. Two horses named Komet and Little Bit along with two dogs named Lightnin’ and Buda. (Not like the town, but like Buddha) We have also housed a three-hoofed cow named Hot Rod. Its backside rode higher than its front, hence the name.
There is a quilt pattern called Courthouse Steps and it is so appropriate for this story. We journeyed to Lampasas last week for their Quilt and Needle Art Show. They are fortunate to hold their Quilt Show in their lovely old courthouse. I have been to this show before but the concept of it never hit me before.
Galileo’s Sun and Ours
Everyone knows the Sun is a brilliant round ball that travels around Earth each day. Perfect and unchanging, it is made of shiny quintessence, a heavenly substance not found on Earth. At least that’s what sophisticated Europeans thought in the early 17th century when Galileo and others began studying the heavens with the newly invented telescope 400 years ago. That view of the Sun began to crumble when Galileo and other early astronomers discovered sunspots.
These are a few of my favorite things
I just love my ‘old things’ and it’s a good thing because my husband likes to make my old things last forever He is a ‘fixer’. He had rather fiddle with something that is broken or just not working well than to eat cake. He is a good fixer and can make do with little or nothing to work with.
*****Don’t forget to SPRING AHEAD. Set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed Saturday night. *****Brianna Francis, daughter of former Blanco County resident Mark Francis & wife Laura, competed in the Southern Sectional Swimming Championships at Texas A&M University, Mar 5-7. Way to go, Briana! Mark & his family make their home in Sandy, Utah. *****Two new babies in Johnson City’s extended families.

I said so...
By Emily Zbytovsky Editor Johnson City Record Courier I am the baby of the family. My parents had three stinky boys before they were blessed with a baby girl. All of my life I have been grateful that I was the only girl with the bonus of five years between my youngest brother and me.
My, February has left us rather quickly and March has come in with some rain. How is that for starting off March 1st, 2010? I love March mainly because it reminds that spring is on its’ way plus daylight savings time is coming. This year Day Light Savings comes on March 14th, 2010 and Spring will be here on March 20th, 2010. Tenants come and join in on Game Day sponsored by Texas Health Care Solutions on March 9th, 2010 @ 1:00 pm till ?????
Well, did we all enjoy the snow? I know four ladies that did. They were like the postman... neither rain, nor hail, nor sleet, nor snow would keep them from their appointed rounds. I had sent out three quilts to a lady to quilt for me and she called me on the Monday before the snow to let me know that she was coming through town on Tuesday to go to Creations in Kerrville with several other ladies.
Forecasters Finally Figure It Out, It Did Snow!
For once, instead of a bunch of promises and hype the weather guys hit the nail on the head! They were telling us for a couple of days that it would snow right here in Blanco County and even how much we’d get. We got it! It snowed a bunch at our place out in the country, in fact most of the morning we couldn’t see across the river for the blowing snow.
