It’s almost time for one of the largest if not the largest Chili Cook Off in the world to take place at the Blanco County Fairgrounds. This is where men from Texas and beyond will compete to become the Chili Cooking Champion! All the funds raised from this event are donated to local charities , making this event extremely beneficial to Johnson City and Blanco County.
(AUSTIN) — The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) and State Senator Troy Fraser today announced a significant funding award to a nonprofit housing developer constructing a new affordable rental property that will help expand housing choices for area tenants while providing a shot in the arm to the local economy.

What are those orange markings and yellow ribbons around town for?
If you’ve wondered recently what the strange orange markings on the ground around town are, or why some trees have yellow ribbons tied around them, you’re not alone. These markings and ribbons are part of the first phase of the construction process of a grant that has been secured by the City of Johnson City called “Safe Routes to School.” According to the National Safe Routes to School website, the program began in August of 2005.
Johnson City, TX: Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park proudly announces the opening of a new exhibit recognizing the Lady Bird Johnson Centennial Celebration that continues throughout 2012. This exhibit will be on display in the Park’s Visitor Center at 100 E. Ladybird Lane in Johnson City through December 22, the anniversary of the First Lady’s 100th birthday.

It was a feisty crowd Tuesday night that kicked off Johnson City’s campaign against drunk driving and under-age abuse of alcohol. Some were concerned about the situation law officers described; some were resolute about changing it; some were plain mad about it, which was appropriate, because the meeting was sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving — MADD.
No Fireworks This Month
On Tuesday, March 06, the Johnson City City Council convened in their regular monthly meeting. There were more residents in attendance than normal, however there were significantly fewer folks present than in last month’s meeting. Anyone attending the meeting hoping for more fireworks was sorely disappointed. Mayor Moss operated the meeting smoothly, giving ample time for anybody who would like the opportunity to speak to do so.
