With the loss of Richard Barrientes, father of four children and beloved husband, Holly is left with funeral and medical expenses not covered by insurance. Accounts have been established at both Johnson City Bank & Cattleman’s National Bank on behalf of the Barrientes family to assist with the expenses. All donations may be made payable to Holly Barrientes.
“If we had known how much we needed each other, I’d have been in Johnson City a long time ago!” Cindy Leonard, RN, has just been hired as a Wesley Nurse by Methodist Healthcare Ministries, and will serve the county’s residents out of an office at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City.
An evening of pure pleasure, food, and casino style gambling…
It’s that time again-and for the 2nd consecutive year the Annual Chamber Banquet will host the Old West Casino Night at the Blanco County Show Barn on Thursday, February 23rd. This event has proven to be a fabulous evening of unique western dress, delicious food, recognition, socializing, a silent auction and casino style gambling fun!
Time to change the world again! The Change-the-World crew at First United Methodist Church will be out again Saturday, doing chores for people who can’t do them for themselves. The last time they were out, Darlene Young and Paul Radich raked leaves and cleaned up the yard for a lady with a bad back.
The Writers’ League of Texas is pleased to partner with the Johnson City Library and the LBJ National Historic Park to present a daylong writing seminar and book signings. This event hosted at the Johnson Settlement Events Center Wednesday February 29, 2012 from 10:00 am - 4:30 pm is $40, the cost of which includes lunch.

On January, 23 2012 Federal Judge Lee Yeakle sentenced local Johnson City resident Gregory Paul Deloach to 57 months in the Federal Prison System. According to JCPD Police Chief Randy Holland, Deloach was found to be responsible for approximately 11 different vehicle burglaries as well as the burglary of the Odiorne Feed Store in town.
Meals on Wheels, which operates under the umbrella of Combined Community Action, provides home-delivered meals to homebound elderly and disabled residents over a six-county area. The program serves meals in Bastrop, Blanco, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays and Lee counties. Combined Community Action, Inc. has been in existence since March 1966. Over the years it has operated numerous programs.
Next time you are coming into Johnson City from the north or south, you will probably notice the new signs put up regarding Johnson City’s State Baseball Championship of 2011. The sign north of town is located on County property next to the Blanco County Show Barn and is visible to anyone traveling from Marble Falls into Johnson City.
For the second year in a row, the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce is turning over the voting of their awards, to you, the people. Our thoughts are who better to make the decision, than the community as a whole! Your choice should be made taking into consideration those that have exceeded your expectations and exemplify the “best of the best” in service, volunteerism or both depending upon the award.
There is one topic that will ‘draw a crowd’ in Blanco County and that is…water. Last Thursday, at the Blanco County Economic Development monthly meeting, Tom Koch, a Blanco County hydrologist and engineer, covered the waterfront. Some of the information Tom shared is well known to any Blanco County resident who has been here over one month - and that is water just might be a problem in Blanco County.
