The Johnson City Library and Community Action have teamed up to bring you FREE GED preparation classes. Community Action, Inc of Hays, Caldwell, and Blanco Counties provides adult education programs that span a ten county area in rural central Texas. These services include GED preparation classes, English as a second language, English Literacy and Civics, and basic literacy instruction.
Do you remember the excitement back in November of 2008 when LCRA purchased a 222-acre parcel just off of 281 on the Pedernales River? What about when site cleanup began the following February? Or maybe when a small portion of the Pedernales River Nature Park was opened in May, 2009 for limited day recreational use?
According to Blanco County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Terry Carter, Freeman, 53, had gone out to his ranch Thursday afternoon and was using a box blade on a tractor to build a stock tank. It’s believed Freeman had driven the tractor to the top of the 10 foot tall levy he was building. Carter said it appeared the tractor had gone off the side of the embankment, rolled over, and caused serious blunt force trauma to Freeman’s head.
On Friday, August 27, 2010 the city council of Johnson City met in a special session to accept the resignation of long standing Mayor, Kermit Roeder. Upon advice from the City Attorney, Pat McGowan, Roeder’s resignation needed to be effective immediately before the council could declare a temporary successor. Roeder then officially asked the city council to accept his resignation.
JC Police Chief Testifies at Sentencing for Round Mountain Robbers
Last Friday, the three men involved in the attempted heist of the Cattleman’s National Bank in Round Mountain received their sentencing. Two of the three illegal citizens were handed down 20 years in a U.S. prison for bank robbery and weapons charges – while the third man only received 17 years as part of a plea agreement. At the August 26, 2010 meeting of the Blanco-Pedernales Groundwater Conservation District, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to set the District’s Ad Valorem Tax Rate at 2.31 cents per $100 valuation, down slightly from the 2.46 cents assessed during the previous two years. Stonewall, Texas—Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park will celebrate the 102nd anniversary of President Johnson’s birth on Friday, August 27. This free celebration begins at 10:00 a.m. with the laying of a wreath on his gravesite in the Johnson family cemetery on the LBJ Ranch. The wreath will be placed by representatives from Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, followed by remarks by Colonel Richard Murphy, Commander, 12th Flying Training Wing.
