A couple of rookie angels got their wings and halos straightened by Pat Smith, wardrobe mistress for the traditional Blanco County Living Nativity Christmas pageant at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City. The angelic role was unfamiliar to Haden Sines, left, and John Axtell, but they caught on as the costume fittings progressed. The pageant — now almost 50 years old — is a major attraction on the Hill Country Trail of Lights, drawing people by the busload from as far as Dallas and Houston. The sound-and-light shows with live action are only part of the attraction; between performances, free refreshments are served inside, where more than 100 nativity sets from around the world are on display. The free show begins every half hour from 6:30 to 8:30 pm Friday and Saturday, December 5, 6, 12 and 13. Assuming the angels can stay awake that late.
