The Johnson City Quilt Guild met June 22nd. Ruth Johnson’s program on a "Peek-A-Boo" Quilt was very interesting. The quilt is put together as you go and after seeing the demonstration, it looks like it will be fun to make. The door prize brought by Bobbi Ely was won by Aritha Graham (a handmade sewing box filled with very old and very nice flour sacks). A short report on our upcoming Quilt Show was given, and ladies we need to get busy.

Who wouldn’t love to have five females and one male named Pete. Pete was the first dog and lasted 17 years, then we had Sassy, Missy, Sissy, Candy, Prissy 1, Prissy 2, and Trixie, and we love them unconditionally. We have been dog lucky over the last 35 years. Some dogs we’ve picked and others have been foisted on us, or in Missy’s case she picked us. Our dogs are and always have been a big part of our lives.
For the past several months, Saturn, Mars, and Venus have been gracing our evening sky, although they have been widely spaced. But now, as they are closing in on one another, they’re in the early stages of an evening sky show you won’t want to miss. Venus, the dazzling "evening star"

I recently made about ten of the "Double" Journal Covers. I say double because if you recall I bought two of the same kits from the same store. They are really easy to do. The most fun part is doing the appliqué block for the front. You can embroider or appliqué your block or even piece a design.

By Keith J. McClellan At its regular meeting on July 13, County Commissioners formalized the overtime compensation policies being used for Blanco County law enforcement personnel. Even though they are already being implemented, the action was necessary in order to be able to include them as official county personnel policies. At the request of the Sheriff, Commissioners authorized Judge Guthrie to sign an inmate communications services agr ...
In the past few months telephone and internet scams have increasingly been reported to local law enforcement. Business owners beware, there are people calling by telephone purchasing products with stolen credit cards. The caller then e-mails or calls the business back with a tricky scheme and requests money be sent to them by western union.

The 2010 Fourth of July Spange Dangle Event went off without a hitch. The weather was excellent, we had a breeze throughout the late afternoon and evening that kept things much cooler than the 2009 Spange Dangle. The Washer Pitching tournament started at 1 pm, with 35 teams signed up for competition.
How I spent my summer: it’s the topic for many an English class’ first writing assignment each fall, and sometimes it’s a way to make a difference in your community. In this case, Kris McDonald, left, Cody Smith, center, and Amanda McDonald spent a morning carrying food boxes for clients of the food bank.
By the time you read this, the floodwaters of the Rio Grande will be down in most spots, and the long job of recovery will have begun for thousands of families evacuated from their homes. The back-to-back tropical systems that brought needed rains to Blanco County dumped a year’s worth of rainfall along the Texas-Mexico border.

Dear Editor, I have been intending to write your newspaper for years. My mother, youngest brother and I came to Johnson City in 1932. We lived with a Mrs. Martinez across the street from the old Barnwell hospital. I was baptized (member of the Methodist Church) in the Pedernales River in the park behind the fair grounds.
Dear Editor, I absolutely loved loved this article in the July 8th issue - Because I Said So "Life Is Not Fair." Mom, still says to me...Life is what you make of it even when it is not fair and you did your best.
