"Eating healthy doesn’t mean eating expensive or hard-to-cook dishes," explained Barbara Gourley of Blanco. "In fact, it often means just eating easy, simple, colorful...and less." Gourley’s regular job is doing home care and therapy for Texas HealthCare Solutions in Blanco and nearby counties, but she said food is an important part of staying healthy or returning to good health after illness.

Another Year Older….. Well, another birthday has come and gone. Birthdays. I will tell you my age, my weight, just about anything, all you have to do is ask. But when all else fails, you can always depend on your friends to remind you of how old you are. I turned 35 on January 16, 2010. Born and raised right here in Johnson City.
My favorite day of the week is when I write this article. I look so forward to writing this that the start of each new week is the start of my day. We had a fantastic Third Friday Luncheon with awesome food and so much food that we even had a drawing for a free cake.
Unjudged quilt shows tend to present the best of quilts. People enter their quilts more freely because they know that they will not be judged. Some people don’t want to know if their corners didn’t meet perfectly or if their seams were not even. Of course they know these things, but they don’t want to be told about it. Kingsland had such a quilt show this past weekend and they had such an array of beautiful quilts.
Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut
Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t. When I feel like a nut I go roast some nice fat pecans in a bit of butter and eat myself sick. You might think I have run plumb out of things to write about and have ‘nuttin’ to say, but I couldn’t resist this one.
*****Thursday, Adelia Felps had a birthday lunch at the Silver K. Camilla Pilgrim, Ava Didaway, Adelia’s sisters Marsha & Norma, Ann Debo, and Rebecca Crider wished her well. *****Ann and Sam Debo now have 2 litters of Shelties since this past weekend, *****Josh Debo, 11 year old son of David and Maurina Debo of Marble Falls, killed a buck the last day of hunting season.

Volunteers from Blanco and nearby counties came together at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City this week to assemble health kits for survivors of the earthquake in Haiti. June Dahmann of Johnson City, left, and Bruce Huguelet of Blanco, right, helped pack more than 400 kits Monday, quitting only when they ran out of supplies.
As a Navy Reservist, Randy Buchanan understood he could be called any time to defend his country. Little did he know that call would come so soon after taking a job with Pedernales Electric. The lieutenant, who learned last spring that he was bound for Afghanistan, had serious concerns, as most members of the military do.
On Monday, January 18, 2010 at around noon, a fatality accident occurred along Highway 290 West. Kristin Wagener, age 18, from San Antonio was traveling East on 290 towards Johnson City, when she crossed the road, hit a guard rail, then hit a pickup truck that was traveling West towards Fredericksburg.
When news of the earthquake in Haiti broke, some Blanco County residents began figuring out how we could help. They couldn’t go do urban search-and-rescue or emergency medicine, and shipping food or water from the Hill Country would be too expensive. So they looked ahead to the next need: diseases that follow disasters in places like Haiti. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

Opinion & Letters

Dear Editor: This last weekend, I attended the funeral of my brother-in-law, Mr. Bill Mauldin, a life long member of this community. This funeral was a total surprise to all of our family. When it was time for the procession to go to Miller Creek Cemetery, there was not a police officer available from either county or city for an escort.

The JV girls basketball team lost to Blanco last Friday with a score of 41-11. It was a disappointing loss after playing such a strong game against Harper the week before.
