On December 6th the Johnson City Police began patrol 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The City of Johnson City has experienced a surge in property crimes in recent past, some occurring in the early morning hours. This factor has deemed it necessary that the police department provide coverage 24/7.

The Blanco County Child Protection & Family Advocacy Board was selected as a partner in the Payless Shoes 4 Kids program — a grass roots effort to deliver $1.2 million of free shoes to children of families in need this holiday season. The Blanco County Board received 15 $15 shoe gift coupons to deliver to children in the board’s charge.

Members of the Pleasant Hill - Rocky Community Club are announcing the distribution of $4,350 raised at this year’s annual benefit dinner, the Smorgasbord, which was held on November 7th. As in previous years, the major donations went to the North Blanco County EMS ($1,000), the Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department ($1,000), and the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department ($1,000).

I finally made it to the Peddler Show last weekend in Fredericksburg. It has been several years since I have been able to make an appearance there. It used to be such a great event for us to attend.
It has slacked off in the past few years. Several of my favorite vendors are no longer participating in the show but to my surprise, in the corner of the middle barn, there were quilts, quilts, and more quilts.

At its regular meeting on December 8, County Commissioners considered whether or not to pay an invoice submitted by the Colorado River Flood Plain Coalition. By paying the amount of $1,000, Blanco County can continue for another year as a member of the Coalition.
Judge Bill Guthrie and Commissioner James Sultemeier noted that the Coalition operates under the auspices of the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA).

Get ready, Susan...they’re coming back! Susan Hamm was one of the Blanco County residents who got their seasonal flu vaccination in the last shot clinic conducted by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Now DSHS is returning with a new supply of H1N1 vaccine to protect against the swine flu.

More than 100 Nativity sets from around the world are on display at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City. The holiday tradition is an adjunct to the church’s Living Nativity Christmas pageant, which is nearing its 50th anniversary. Most of the sets belong to June Dahmann, left, who had help from Janette Hoppe and other ladies of the church in the sorting and setup.
