The Johnson City Independent School District is offering a $200 reward for information on criminal mischief that occurred over the weekend. There were 2 incidents that occurred this weekend as follows: 1) Someone put super glue in the key holes of the doors at the weight room near the football field off Victory Lane; 2) Someone drove on the practice field behind the high school main campus, which tore up and trenched the grass on the field.

There was jewelry stolen from a vehicle possibly in Johnson City, Texas on Saturday the 26th. There are several pieces of jewelry in the collection that were stolen, including a 3 strand pearl and diamond bracelet. There are a total of more than 40 jewelry items stolen. This jewelry belongs to a delightful woman that has a strong sentimental attachment to this jewelry.

October and El Nino Well as we have seen so far as usual Bob Rose is right on target. Here in the end of September and the beginning of October the rains have returned. Praise Be to God! It has been almost two years since I have seen any water in our creek (Oatmeal Creek).
With the wonderful rain we have had and the cooler weather we feel like we have moved to another state. The outside looks beautiful and the deer and the turkeys just keep moving constantly making quite a show for us. Our pest control company could not spray on October 9th, 2009 because of the rain; however, they will be here on the 19th. Everybody mark your calendar for October 16th, 2009.
Well, we missed the quilt show in Bryan because of all the wonderful rain. I was afraid to drive that direction because of flash flooding indicated. Geneva Eubanks had graciously kept me informed about the show and I regret that we did not make it and get to visit with them.
*****Bernice Casparis has been celebrating her birthday for days. On Saturday, October 3, granddaughter Crystal Braden and husband Kirk came from San Angelo to take Bernice to Ronnie’s for lunch. Then on Sunday, October 4, Bernice was honored again at Mamacita’s in Fredericksburg by lunching with grandson Faron and his family.

HELP US SHOOT DICK WIEMERS! Dick got his seasonal flu shot at the Blanco County shot clinic last year, and he says he’ll be in line again for this year’s shot on Wednesday, October 21, at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City. The shooters from the Department of State Health Services will work from 9 to noon that morning to immunize residents against the three strains of regular flu that are just starting to circulate this year.
Anyone wishing to vote early for the November 3, 2009, Constitutional Amendment Election may do so starting October 19, 2009. Regular hours for early voting will begin October 19, 2009 and run through October 30, 2009. It will be held in the County Commissioner’s Courtroom, Blanco County Courthouse, 101 E.

After a week of much-needed rain and a cold front that brought refreshingly cool temperatures that Hill Country residents haven’t experienced in many months, 33 runners of all ages participated in the first annual LBJ Ranch Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 10. The event benefited local education programs sponsored by the Johnson City Community Education Foundation, including teacher grants and higher education scholarships for students.

The Oak Forest Subdivision held its first annual Texas Night Out on Tuesday, October 6. This is a time for neighbors to come together to get to know each other and meet and greet local emergency responders (Law Enforcement, Fire Officials, EMS) to build a partnership for the betterment of the community. Obituaries

Ron Houston was born in Karnes County, Texas, February 18, 1939 and passed away October 7, 2009. He graduated from Kenedy High School in 1957, during which time he began working at the local radio station. He went on to work at several radio stations in South Texas and Houston, arriving in San Antonio to work at KTSA.
Varnell E. Fleming died on Thursday, October 8th at sunrise. He was born in Brownfield, TX on October 4, 1920, baptized at University Hills Baptist Church in Austin. In addition to being a talented artist and builder of many construction projects, he retired from the Texas Highway Department as a Draftsman Engineer.
Dr. L.R. “Dick” Louden of Johnson City passed away at home on Saturday October 10, 2009 at the age of 76. Dick Louden was born to Lester and Mabel Louden on July 8, 1933 in Monroe, Washington. He grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas. He served his country in the Army.

The Johnson City Independent School Board met Monday, October 12th in regular session. The board began with a campus tour of the middle school. This is the first of two tours of the middle school. The board will also tour both the elementary and high schools. Following the tour, the board nominated two new members to the Blanco County Central Appraisal District Board of Directors.

The LBJ High School and Middle School cross country teams participated in the Comfort cross country meet this past Saturday, October 10. The Eagles competed in the varsity girls, varsity boys, jv boys and 8th grade girls divisions. The Lady Eagles beat Randolph in a quick three games 25-15, 25-21, and 25-15. They took care of business quickly and played almost flawlessly. “The crowd was incredibly noisy –I was so proud that the girls didn’t let it bother them”, commented Coach Voron. Great serving by the whole team expedited the win.

Former University of Texas Football Coach Fred Akers can tell plenty of stories about his legendary battles against the rival Oklahoma Sooners. Starting with his first as Head Coach in 1977, when a third-string quarterback helped engineer a 13-6 win over the second-ranked Sooners, and Akers’ former college teammate, Oklahoma Coach Barry Switzer. “Any time we played Oklahoma, it was always very physical.
