And to top this, on May 9th was the JCVFD Fish Fry. This is always the best and you get to see so many friends that you haven’t seen in awhile.

Its gnat season at the Smith Ranch. Nothing is going on outside because these damnable tiny insects are driving us crazy. I can’t relax with a good book out on the porch in my swinging bed, I can’t plant the seeds that need to be planted, I can’t stand very long to water the plants, in fact anything we need or want to do outdoors can’t be done here until the gnats leave and after that I guess it will be oak worm season.
Well, we are playing hooky again. It is Sunday and we are headed to Brownwood for their Quilt Show. Darlene, Delbert and myself met Jackie and her friend in Brownwood and took in the quilts. There were over 150 quilts and plenty of vendors. Jackie, the one sister who does not quilt, came right in and registered for a door prize and WON.

The Nature Conservancy Hydrilla, known as the “world’s worst weed” came to Texas, as it did to much of North America, through the aquarium trade. While the lush stems of this aquatic plant offer terrific cover for goldfish, they also grow in thick mats that quickly take over entire lakes, crowd out native plants and damage populations of popular sportfish species. In little more than 50 years, this invasive has established itself in nearly half of U.S.

By Barbara Rainey When I was home-schooling our children during their early grades, I had them keep a daily journal as a way of teaching them writing skills. We found that this idea extended naturally into our vacations. I would bring my camera along and take pictures throughout the trips we took, and the children later glued the photos into their “vacation books.” Many times the children didn’t want to journal, but I made them do it anyway.
