Yes we have disposed of Thanksgiving, not the memories but the best paper plates that Chinet had to offer, the toughest plastic flatware, Styrofoam glasses, and even and this is the part I really love, all the aluminum pans that our forty eleven casseroles were baked in. For your information, in our family anything that is ‘a lot’ we call forty eleven.

Lights, lights, and more lights, what a sight to see. Our community is something to see and as a matter of fact, the whole town is something to see. In the midst of economic hard times it is so nice to see people sharing whatever they can with their neighbors and with strangers that come to tour our town.

The Holy Family, a shepherd boy and a couple of rookie angels have been learning their parts for Johnson City’s traditional Living Nativity Christmas pageant at the First United Methodist Church. The last costume fittings and walk-throughs are happening this week, with opening night scheduled for Friday. Lights Spectacular kicked off what is sure to be another successful season over the Thanksgiving weekend. The lights will be on through January 1st for all to enjoy.

One of my favorite holiday flicks has always been the original 1990 version of Home Alone. (Before they ruined it with all of the sequels… I mean really, you’d think CPS would have been called by the time they made Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House?)

For almost 50 years now, the Living Nativity Christmas pageant has been a part of the season for tens of thousands of people, and this year will continue the tradition with two weekends of free performances at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City.
Final costume fittings and practices are happening this week, working toward opening night on Friday.

The performance on Friday, December 5 will be at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Johnson City at 8:00 PM.

Criminal Mischief of a Vehicle/Marble Falls
Marble Falls Police Department and Crime Stoppers are asking for the publics’ assistance with any information on a case of criminal mischief to a 2001 white Ford Explorer. All four tires were slashed, both rearview mirrors were broken off and it was scratched (keyed) all around.

The Blanco County Cat Coalition has been busy so far in 2008. They have been trapping, neutering and returning cats in a program known as TNR. TNR is a proven procedure in which entire colonies of stray and feral cats are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered by veterinarians.

Next week, beginning Monday December 8th, and continuing through Friday, December 12th, the LBJ Elementary/Intermediate Library will be hosting a Buy One, Get One Free Scholastic Book Fair. The hours will be 7:30-4:30 daily.
Students and teachers from all three campuses, as well as parents and visitors, are invited to come.

The Fredericksburg Chorale will present three Christmas concerts on December 6, at St. Joseph’s Hall located at 212 W. San Antonio St. in Fredericksburg. Johnson City– Area cattlemen are at risk if a tiny tick in South Texas cannot be contained by quarantine efforts, said Adrian Schulze S&T of the Blanco County Farm Bureau.
Schulze said the Texas Farm Bureau Resolutions Committee met recently in Waco and suggested a number of policy changes that relate to control of the fever tick, which carries a disease potentially fatal to cattle.

On Saturday, November 15th, three Johnson City band members competed in the ATSSB (Association of Texas Small School Bands) Middle School Region Band Try-Outs. This event was held for band students in 7th and 8th grade. Amara Yachimski, Elizabeth Waltz, and Jose Mesa participated in the clinic and concert Saturday, November 22nd in Hutto.

The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team earned their first win of the young season this past Tuesday evening, November 25 with a victory over their old district rivals the Center Point Pirates. The first half was tight throughout with the Pirates holding a 14-13 lead after the first period but the Eagles came back to take a 27-26 halftime lead.

On Tuesday, November 18th the Varsity Lady Eagles crushed the San Marcos Baptist Bears! Junior Kelya Jureczki had 10 clever steals, while Senior Avry Stolzman had 8 aggressive rebounds that kept the team going. At this exciting game we had two high scorers! Sophomore Kayla Jernigan had 2 amazing three pointers, making a total of 14 points.

Linda Thomas, RN, a three-year breast cancer survivor, will visit breast cancer patients as a Gillespie Unit of the American Cancer Society (ACS) volunteer. She completed the ACS Reach to Recovery training in Austin, and Hill Country Memorial Hospital is referring interested breast cancer patients to her.
She said her visit can be a message of hope and inspiration to a breast cancer patient.
