We welcome our little Princess with love! Grayci Mickayl Gale. Grayci was born at 8:27am on June 2, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. She weighed 8 lbs and was 20.5 inches long. Proud parents are Michael and Kayla, and BIG brother Grant Gale. Grandparents are Bill & Peggy Lindig (Omie & Opie) of Johnson City and Doris Gale (Nanny) of Granite Shoals.

Mr. and Mrs. Todd Kneese of Johnson City were married in Rockport, Texas, on July 9th, 2008. Todd’s children, Kayla and Colt Kneese, and Sandra’s children, Sam Welch and to-be daughter-in-law, Ranelle Jones, also attended. It was a sunset beach-side wedding. Afterwards, dinner was enjoyed at a local restaurant by the whole family.

Things are still happening here. We sit on the porch and share what we can and just have a good time. It has been a nice and quiet week around here and it looks like another quiet week. We got some much needed rain and you can already tell the difference in the yards around here.

Keeping on the subject of “Then and Now” we will be looking at scissors (then) and rotary cutters (now) today. Our subject is rotary cutters and a few tips for using them. If you do not feel comfortable, you may choose to use the “then” version for cutting out your quilt patterns.

We have lived out here for 24 years and just in the last 3 years we finally got home delivery of the Austin Statesman. At first they just came to the top of our driveway and left it there and then came on down our drive and for the nicest long time it was at our gate every time we opened our baby blue eyes.

At the same hour Hurricane Dolly was blowing ashore in south Texas, Daniel Lumpkin was in Johnson City passing on buckets of cleaning supplies for flooding victims. Each “flood bucket” contains a complete cleaning kit for a flooded house, down to clothes pins and line for drying laundry when the power is off.

LBJ ELEMENTARY CAMPUS: 2008-2009 Our new year will begin with new student registration on Monday and Tuesday, August 4th and 5th. The American Red Cross says it will begin offering CPR, First Aid and AED training in Blanco County quarterly, as a result of increased local interest in taking the classes. (AUSTIN) — With the rising cost of gasoline, groceries and other goods, the annual clothing sales tax holiday will help families’ back-to-school budgets go farther, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said today. Combs announced that the 10th annual sales tax holiday will take place Aug. 15-17. During the tax holiday weekend, most clothing and shoes priced less than $100 can be purchased tax free.

The 2008 Blanco County Fair Exhibit Hall will feature several new events for both children and adults on Saturday, August 16. Four FREE activities are planned for the kids. AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department finalized the early season migratory game bird regulations, which includes dove and teal seasons for 2008-09. Texas hunters will see a 16-day September teal season and no changes to the South Dove Zone segments. The North Zone runs Sept. 1-Oct. 30, with a 15-bird bag and not more than two white-tipped dove; the Central Zone is Sept.

Funeral services for Betty Schnell, 68, of La Grange were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Bragdon officiated. Interment followed in the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Cemetery. Betty died on July 20. Betty Jean Schnell was born October 15, 1939 in Granger, the daughter of Alfred Christ and Otillie Agustina (Cervenka) Lindemann.

“Ignite the Flame” was the familiar phrase we heard at the 80th Annual State FFA Convention. Not only was this the theme of the convention, but also was a message of what we and more than 10,000 other Texas FFA members would be doing in Lubbock, TX July 14-18.
