Burnet County Sheriff’s Office and Hill Country Area Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s assistance for any information on the theft of 10 dirt bikes; 9 Hondas and 1 Yamaha. Also taken were 10 motorcycles helmets sometime between the hours of 8:30pm Sunday April 20, 2008 to 7:30am Monday April 21, 2008 from a summer dirt bike youth camp off of F.M.243 East of Bertram.
Stephen and Barbara Schmidt announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Nicole Schmidt, to Curtis Charles Dorotik, son of, Anthony and Wanda Dorotik of El Campo, Texas. The bride-elect graduated from LBJ High School and Angelo State University with a degree in elementary education. She is currently employed as a second grade teacher at Ingram Elementary. The prospective groom is a graduate of El Campo High School and Sam Houston State University with a degree in agriculture.

Clubs & Organizations

Last Tuesday morning a happy group of men and women boarded the bus in front of the library and headed to San Antonio to visit the Human Body Exhibit at the Witte Museum. It was a beautiful day, our ride was perfect, getting to the Library in time for our appointed tour.
The Willow City Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department members invite everyone to join them for the annual benefit on Saturday, May 3rd at the Willow City Fire Station, located at 2553 Ranch Road 1323. Activities will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the opening of the Auxiliary’s Country Store. Offered will be canned and baked goods, plants, and other items donated by the community’s residents.

If you are lucky enough to live down by the riverside then you are lucky enough, so we are lucky enough. We do live by the riverside but not down by the river, that’d be foolish since it is in the flood plain; we live high up on a bluff overlooking the river. We have just had work done by some very hard working young men who did a lot of cleaning up around here of dead trees and debris left by the storm last year.
Things are still happening here on the porch. I have been a little under the weather lately. I stayed at St. David’s Hospital and they discovered that I have Congestive Heart Failure and I need to watch my blood pressure. They gave me a good plan to follow, now I just need to do what the doctor says.
From heavy hounds to fat cats, pet obesity is literally a huge problem. While over-feeding by giving treats to your animal may be considered a sign of your affection, it might also be a death sentence. In the United States and other countries, about 40 percent of pets are obese.
Well, we have a new driver, me(Janie), and a street spotter, my other sister, Jackie. We lost Marjorie and Willie. We left on Sunday at 11:00 am to finish out the HOP. We quickly arrived at Pocketful of Poseys in Fredericksburg and what a treat. They had so many beautiful quilts on the walls.

On Monday, April 28th, the Emergency Services District (ESD) held a public meeting to discuss why there is tension between the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department and the Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. ESD Board President, David White opened the meeting promptly at 7:00 to a full house.
Experience and a love for children describe the candidates in the upcoming JCISD School Board election on Saturday, May 10th. Regardless of who is elected to fill the two open positions, the result will be a spirit of willing volunteerism and goodwill for a school district that is vigorously seeking the exemplary status at its high school and middle school campuses.
The 4th annual Blanco County Relay for Life is now history. However, it is still not too late to make donations. Contributions for Relay ’08 will be placed “on the books” through August of the current year. Although the formal activities are over, the memories are not. The Discovery Academy, a Johnson City Library after-school enrichment program, will be hosting a special event Saturday, May 10th from 9am to 1pm at the LBJ National Historic Park in Stonewall. Students currently in the 3rd and 4th grade are invited to participate in hands-on learning activities in Aquatic Ecology led by staff from the Texas Tech Outdoor School.
Sooner or later, Blanco County will have a health disaster, and your neighbors will need your help. It may just be a bad flu season; we’ve had some of those in the past few years. But it also could be one of those truly terrible bugs that break out once every century or so, like a killer strain of bird flu or something out of the tropics.

While I went “Shop Hopping” at the Bluebonnet Shop Hop, we visited twelve shops in Austin, San Antonio, Kerrville, New Braunfels, and Fredericksburg. When you complete all twelve shops your passoprt is put in a drawing for the Grand Prize which this year was worth over $1800.00.
Pedernales Electric will hold a forum for candidates in the 2008 PEC Board of Directors election to meet with members and communicate their credentials, experience and views. The forum will be held May 1 at 6 p.m. at the PEC Training Center, located at 1506 North U.S. Highway 281 in Johnson City. Each candidate will address the audience on the topics of their choice; the two-minute-long speeches will be filmed and the video posted to the utility’s web site several days after the forum.
At its April 21 board meeting in Cedar Park, Pedernales Electric announced the 58 candidates who have met certification requirements to run in the upcoming Board election. Members will elect Directors for District 2, District 3 and District 7. Members will elect Advisory Directors for District 5 and District 6.

The Blanco Rodeo Association will be holding a Tiny West Memorial PBR bull riding on Saturday, May 3rd at Yett Memorial Park in Blanco, TX. Activities will begin Friday evening May 2nd with DNZ Rodeo Company junior bull riding event to begin at 5:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, a washer pitchin’ tournament will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Obituaries

Theodore Nelson Withers, 83, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 in Fredericksburg, Texas. Nelson was born August 13, 1924, to W. H. and Faye Casparis Withers. He spent his entire life in Johnson City, Texas. In addition to his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Margaret Mearle Lackey; three brothers, Clark, Charlie and Harold Withers; and sister Della Withers Calloway.

Dear Editor, Lots of good things happened in Johnson City over the April 19th weekend. So many of us took advantage of the well run and I hope successful ‘clean-up’ that was held. I can’t tell you how much that was appreciated by us and all that took advantage of the offer to have our junk hauled off for no charge.

LBJ High School is offering the opportunity to honor a loved one who has been a part of Johnson City Schools with the establishment of their new Honor Walk in the courtyard outside of the campus library. Interested individuals may purchase an engraved brick to be installed in the patio which will be the focal point of a garden area planned, installed and maintained by high school students and staff.

The Johnson City Eagle baseball team will face Sabinal in a 2 out of 3 series starting this Friday. The Eagles will travel to Sabinal on Friday and play the first game of the series at 5 pm. On Saturday, Sabinal will travel to Johnson City to play a 4:00pm game and a 7:00 PM game (if necessary). “This will be the first play-off game that J.C has hosted in a while and I want to invite you out to support the Eagles on Saturday”, commented Coach Braden.
The LBJ Lady Eagle softball team claimed a bi-district title this past Wednesday, April 23 defeating the Charlotte Trojanettes 6-0 at Bandera High School. The victory was the Lady Eagles first bi-district title in many years and advances them to the area playoff round. After a scoreless first inning the Lady Eagles put 2 runs on the board in the 2nd inning.
The Johnson City Eagle baseball team defeated the Medina Bobcats 7-3 to win the second place slot in district 29 A. Both Johnson City and Medina had idenical 5-3 district records and had split in their previous two district games. Johnson City won the first regular season district game 9-8 and lost the second district game 6-4.
