The LBJ Eagle varsity, junior varsity and middle school cross country teams participated in the 27-2A District cross country meet this past Wednesday, October 29 at Comfort High School. The Eagles came away from the meet with 2 regional qualifiers, a district champion, a district runner up, a district championship team and a total of 16 medals.
In the varsity divisions, junior Kelya Jureczki and senior Jesus Sanchez qualified for this weekends regional meet in San Antonio. Jureczki finished 2nd in the varsity girls division while Sanchez placed 9th in the varsity boys division. The top 10 finishers qualified for the regional meet. This is the 3rd straight year that both runners have qualified for the regional meet.
The junior varsity boys team won the district championship placing 4 members in the top 10. Top finishers for LBJ were Jorge Regino in 4th, Cole Roemer in 5th, Aaron Humphrey in 7th and John Leslie in 10th. All of these young men received medals for their top 10 finish. Other medalist from the championship team were Ryan Franklin, Sergio Alvarado and Adam Lefford. The team scored a total of 37 points running away with the title by a total of 48 points. Other members of the JV title squad that ran at the district meet were Luke Neely, Dylan Carter, Michael Zurovec, Fidel Coronilla, Zach Reveal and Eddie Salas. This was the first district championship for an LBJ cross country team.
In the 7th grade girls division the Eagles placed all 3 of its runners in the top four places. Brooke Wood won the district title, winning her 2 mile race by 24 seconds. Whitney Wood finished in 3rd place and Kiley Wood placed 4th. All 3 girls won medals.
Congratulations to all runners for their fantastic job at the district meet, all runners should be congratulated for doing an outstanding job, giving a great effort and rising to the occassion. .
This Saturday, November 8 Jureczki & Sanchez will compete at the Region IV-2A meet at Brooks City Base in San Antonio. Jureczki will run at 10:50 am and Sanchez will run at 11:10 am. Best of luck to these students as they continue their highly successful seasons.
