The Lady Eagles played Brooks Academy in San Antonio on Tuesday night and won easily in 3 games. Fantastic serving by Seleste Mills and Alex Houston helped the Eagles get ahead early in each of the games. “The ladies played a very solid match with limited mistakes”, commented Coach Voron.
The Lady Eagles were excited for their next match-up with Blanco on Friday night but fell to the Blanco Panthers in a four-game match. The first two games caught the Lady Eagles off guard and Blanco won both of them 16-25, and 20-25. The Eagles rallied back in the fourth game winning easily 25-16. Great serving by Seleste Mills, (5 aces) and great net play by Dana Bushnell (4 kills) crept up on Blanco as the Lady Eagles showed what they could do.
It looked like the Lady Eagles had the fourth game but some untimely errors had Blanco on top by a very close score of 24-26. Adrienne Pabon had some impressive net play with 4 blocks and 3 kills while Alex Houston had beautiful on-target setting (16 assists). “I really thought we were going to take that fourth game – and get to play a fifth game”, said Coach Voron. But, it was not to be in the end.
The Lady Eagle JV volleyball team struggled against Blanco on Friday night as well. They came out strong with a win in the first game, 25-20. “Brittany Harris and Samantha Preece scored lots of serving points to keep the momentum in our favor,” said Coach Smith. “But our confidence level dropped in the second game and we just couldn’t seem to recover.” Scores for the final two games were 20-25 and 4-15. It was a disappointing loss, but the team overall had a successful season.
