Tuesday October 14th vs. Comfort

The Lady Eagles played a tough 5 game match against Comfort last Tuesday night – and prevailed 25-17, 25-27, 25-22, 20-25, and 15-10. It was a “nail-biter” of a match with each team winning one – then losing one –then finalizing in an incredible fifth game which the Lady Eagles came back to win after being down 2-7. “It was an incredible comeback in the fifth game,” commented Coach Voron. “These ladies showed what they are made of!”

Great hitting from Dana Bushnell (11 kills), Seleste Mills, (10 kills) and Adrienne Pabon, (8 kills) often stunned the Comfort defense – but missed serving allowed Comfort to win 2 out of the 5 games. Milan Weeks once again played tough defense with 15 digs right to the setter, Alex Houston – who had 38 on target assists for the evening. The fifth game could not have been won, however, without the fantastic serves from Milan Weeks and Adrienne Pabon. “We kept the serves in during that last high-pressure game - which solidified our win”, said Coach Voron.

The Lady Eagle JV team played their best match of the season against Comfort last Tuesday night. Even though they suffered a tough loss, the team played excellent offense and defense. Final scores were 20-25 and 25-27. “It is always hard to lose a close match, but this is the first time the team has shown disappointment with losing,” said Coach Smith. “They finally believe that they have the skills to compete and win! We’ve overcome a huge mental block and I believe it is a turning point for this young team.”

Friday, October 17 vs. Cole

The Lady Eagles played San-Antonio Cole on Friday night and also got a win – but this time they won in 3 games. The scores were 25-5, 25-18, and 25-18. Great serving by the Lady Eagles took Cole out of the game early when Milan Weeks and Alex Houston both served 4 aces in the first game. Seleste Mills and Dana Bushnell came out firing again with great back row hits that also took the opposing team by surprise. Coach Voron also commented, “Alex Houston was fantastic tonight – her sets were right on target to our hitters tonight!” Alex ended up with 35 on-target assists from the evening. The Lady Eagles made the third game interesting by coming back to win against a 5 point deficit. Freshman Savannah Stolzman came in to save the day with serving 10 in a row – to win the game 25-18. “It’s amazing that Savannah is only a rookie because she played like a veteran tonight”, commented Coach Voron.

As predicted by Coach Smith, the Lady Eagle JV volleyball team chalked up a win in front of the home crowd on Friday night against Cole. The entire team was moving and communicating and playing excellent defense. Confidence in their offense was obvious because of the huge number of hits that were made. “I was so proud of this young team finally putting it all together,” said Coach Smith. “They are doing a great job and are improving their skills everyday. I am so proud of the progress of the entire team.” The JV team has an open date this Tuesday but is looking forward to the rematch against Blanco on Friday night.
