The Community Garden Club met last Thursday at the Johnson Settlement at the LBJ National Park. Thirty six ladies including two guests were welcomed to the settlement colorfully decorated for fall and Halloween. Our new President, Pearl Hedlund opened the meeting, she asked our program chairperson Jean Anderson to introduce our program for the day. Donna Sultemeier gave a demonstration on decorating a fall wreath with silk flowers and a table arrangement. Donna made it look easy, and the results were beautiful, the wreath was the door prize and was won by Dorothy Turner.

After the program, a business meeting was conducted, the different committees reported. Our Ways and Means chairperson, Nancy Talley, passed around sign up sheets to work during Lights Spectacular opening weekend. The Garden Club will be selling prize winning chili, and Frito pie. We will also be selling raffle tickets for a Potluck on the Pedernales cookbook autographed by Lady Bird Johnson. This was the day for sign up sheets. With Lights Spectacular approaching, Joycelyn Carter was passing one for volunteers to be hostesses in the Courthouse on weekends. The club continues to recycle and take care of the beautiful planters downtown and at the 281/290 intersection.

Under new business, the club voted to purchase a $500 paver for the new library. The Garden Club has been and will continue to be an avid supporter of the library. Everyone is looking forward to moving day and anxious to help in any way needed.

The meeting was adjourned and festive holiday refreshments were served by hostesses, Freda Baber, Nancy Talley, Dorothy Turner, Louise Paterson, Gwen Pickett, and Pearl Hedlund.

You are invited to join us for our November 13th meeting at the Methodist Church. Kay Culp will be showing the power point program that was presented at the Ruby Jubilee last year. You do not have to be a member to join us for the presentation, if you missed it, or were just too busy to watch it please join us, this is really a trip down memory lane, and a great part of our history. Fall is in the air, enjoy, and happy gardening.
