By Kathleen Spears,

Band Booster

Members of the LBJ High School Jazz Band attended the ATSSB Region Jazz Auditions at Wimberley High School on Saturday September 20, 2008. Brandon Adams, Michael Banfield and Ethan Uballe play Saxophone; John Paul Davino and Tamara Nacel play Trumpet; Phillip Linsey on Drums and Jared Spears on Guitar. These musicians signed up for the competition and were given several sheets of music to learn one week before the competition. Several after school and evening jam sessions were held by Band Director Bryan Anders to prepare the students for their individual performances before a panel of unseen Judges.

All their hard work paid off; all made the top ten within their instrumental category. Phillip Linsey and Jared Spears made first chair and will move on to the Area Auditions at LaGrange High School, the date and time have yet to be set.

Without the support of the Johnson City School District and High School Principal Julie Storer for providing the bus and Mr. Ripson for driving these fine musicians to any number of competitions and Band Director Bryan Anders for countless hours of individual and group tutorials these students wouldn’t have the opportunity to Learn from the exposure, Grow from the experience and Achieve a higher appreciation of music.
