Johnson City Quilter’s Guild met this past Thursday and made some of the final plans for their upcoming show on September 20th. Since they did not quiet get finished with things, they will meet on Thursday, September 18th at Not Too Shabby around 11:30 and bring a sack lunch. Drinks will be available. Marjorie Latham reported on Peggy Apiki and how she was recognized at Calvary Baptist Church in San Marcos by “Threads of Love” organization. She presented them with the preemie quilts that she usually sends with Marjorie for our guild to take to the Threads of Love in San Antonio. Our guild was recognized as a donor for this project and Peggy as a member of our guild. Johnson City Quilter’s Guild had donated over 200 preemie quilts to this labor of love. Edith Treece had program for this month and she shared with us how to make a quilt carrier or tote. This is to carry your finished quilts in or your unfinished as you take them to the quilter. It looks a lot better than that black or white trash bag we usually use. This tote is quiet large and finished measures 32” by 32” with two dowels measuring from 12” to 16” across the top to stabilize the handles. She also shared a Casserole Tote and Place Mats using jean pockets to put your napkin and silverware in. Very interesting.
Show and Tell is always interesting. Marjorie showed us the ribbons for the Quilt show. She is making these for awards at show. Darlene Brockway shared two little preemie gowns that she had finished. They are so tiny. Also shared a Mini-quilt top she had finished called “Twist and Shout”. We hope to see this at the quilt show. Ruth Johnson shared two quilts, a vintage top and one that she had pieced. Both were very vibrant colors. Louise Paterson shared pictures from a quilt show in Kentucky that she had attended. Carol Bigott shared her finished “Egg Money Quilt”, a Lavendar Nine-Patch made from double knits, a Star Quilt, and a quilt her grandmother had made 55 years ago. Mickey shared her challenge block that she had made from fat quarters that Louise had given her from her winnings at the quilt hop. Nancy Jordan shared her daughters’ quilt called “Girly Patch”. This quilt won “Best of Show and a Blue Ribbon at the Fair Exhibit. Also shared a John Deere Wall Hanging she had made. Irene Grote shared her block from Buck-a-month Club at Not Too Shabby. Lucille, Irene’s sister, shared a table runner that she had made with flying geese border.
Jane passed out her challenge block and Edith Treece won the door prize. Guest were Lucille, Irene’s sister, Jackie Grote and Bobbi Ely.
We have set up a mini-library at Not Too Shabby with several books that have been donated to the Guild. Go by and check it out if your interest lies in quilting.
Next meeting will be October 23, 2008 at the Catholic Church and we will be discussing the quilt show and electing new officers for next year. Be there if you can.
