Take an active role in the Blanco County Fair by entering your prize plants in the Flowers and Plants exhibit. The booth is sponsored by Texas AgriLIFE Service, Blanco County and the Blanco County Master Gardeners Association.

The Flowers and Plants exhibit has multiple categories of flower and plants including: Potted Plants, Cut Flower Arrangements, Hanging Baskets, Cacti, Dish Gardens, Terrariums, Floral Wreaths, and Artificial Flower Arrangements. All plants or arrangements are judged on their own merit based on the ideal plant performance of the species or variety being judged. Awards include Blue, Red and White Ribbons, and a “Best of Show” Rosette is picked from all the blue ribbon plants or arrangements in each category. Only plants and flowers that are homegrown will be accepted and entries are limited to residents of Blanco County. Plants or arrangements that were entered in previous years but did not win “Best in Show” recognition may be submitted again this year.

All entries must be submitted on Thursday, August 14 between 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Judging of entries will occur at 6:30 that same day and exhibits will be open to the public for viewing on Friday, August 15 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, August 16 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Entries may be reclaimed on Sunday, August 17 between noon and 1:30 p.m.

While at the fair, stop by the Texas Hill Country Native Plant demonstration garden located right outside of the exhibit hall. This demonstration garden will showplace the premier trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials that are native to the area and highly recommended for Hill Country landscaping.

If anyone has questions regarding participation in fair exhibits or for complete Exhibit Hall Rules please contact Gretchen Sanders at the Texas AgriLIFE Service, Blanco County office at 830-868-7167.
