Ryan Joseph Bean, a gaduate of Johnson City High School, has been awarded a scholarship by the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation. Bean received a Hatton W. Sumners Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year.
This year the Sumners Foundation awarded a total of seven grants to students who have participated in the University Interscholastic League Academic State Meet and who plan to major in government, political science or history. This year the TILF awarded 393 new awards and will renew approximately 225 awards for a total of more than 600 scholarships for 2008-09, with value of over $1 million. Recipients may attend any approved college or university in Texas.
Bean competed in current issues and events at the 2007 and 2008 UIL Academic State Meets. He also participated in UIL social studies and one act play. He is the son of Michel and Jerry Bean. Bean plans to attend Lamar University and major in political science.
