Sally Armstrong of Donkey-Oaties Miniature Donkeys has returned from Shelbyville, Tennessee, where she competed in the country’s largest donkey and mule show. The 17th Annual Great Celebration Mule & Donkey Show was held July 10 - 12, 2008, in the Champions and Calsonic Arenas.
Competitors were there from 25 states showing everything from Miniature Donkeys to Mammoth Donkeys and Mini-Mules to Draft Mules.
Armstrong took her four-year-old gelding, Stock Market’s Maximum Cash (Max). He is the Miniature Donkey that Armstrong was driving in the Johnson City Fourth of July parade. Max was entered in 12 different classes and placed in 10. Max is an “all-around” Miniature Donkey in that he has been trained to show in halter classes and performance classes which include driving and jumping.
In the Gelding Halter Class for 3 Year-Olds & Over, Max placed third. In his driving classes Max placed second in Reinsmanship, Pole Bending, and Single Stake Race; third in Pleasure Driving and Obstacle Driving.
In the performance classes Max placed fourth in Snigging and sixth in Showmanship. In the jumping classes Max placed second in Coon Jumping and fifth in In-Hand Jumping.
Armstrong was extremely pleased with Max’s showing and added that “He won enough premium money to buy gas for the trip home!”
Donkey-Oaties will be showing in Belton in August, the Kansas State Fair in September, the Texas State Fair in October, followed by shows in Corsicana and Texas A&M in November to complete the 2008 show circuit.
