The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball finished up their first round of district play this past Friday, Feb 3 with a 44-20 victory over the Center Point Pirates on parent’s night. The first quarter was very tight but the Eagles outscored Center Point 12-4 in the second quarter for a 21-11 halftime lead. The Eagles used an aggressive press, solid halfcourt defense and good offensive execution to put the game away in the 3rd period outscoring the Pirates 13-1 during the period. Jaxon Riebesehl was high scorer for LBJ with 20 points followed by Wyatt Eubanks with 17. Will Rutherford was the leading rebounder with 8 followed by Chase Klaerner with 6 and Juan Alvarez with 4. Riebesehl and Alvarez led the team in assists with 3 each and Eubanks added in 4 blocks. This was the final home game for 5 seniors on the team. Eubanks, Zach Reveal, Riley North, Dusty Harvey and Van Johnson. Earlier in district play the Eagles lost two close thrilling games to state ranked Medina and Mason. In the Mason game the Eagles fell at the end of regulation by a score or 38-37. Riebesehl was the leading scorer for LBJ with 15 points followed by Rutherford with 9. Eubanks led the team in rebounds with 13 followed by Klaerner and Jade Cones with 7 each. Against the 10th ranked Medina Bobcats the Eagles played an inspired game but fell at the end of overtime 46-45. Riebesehl led the team in points with 19 followed by Eubanks with 13. Eubanks also pulled down 16 rebounds. This week the Eagles will travel to Medina to take on the Bobcats again on Tuesday night and then will travel to Mason to play the Punchers on Friday. Game time for the Mason game is set for approximately 6:30, the JV game will start at 5:00. Please come out and support your LBJ Eagle boys basketball teams as they continue their district season.
