Eligible Pedernales Electric Cooperative members interested in running for a position on the Co-op’s Board of Directors can now obtain the petition materials needed to seek the nomination. PEC directors are democratically elected by the Cooperative’s membership. Positions up for election in 2012 are District 1 director, District 6 director and District 7 director. Petition materials are posted on PEC’s website, www.pec.coop, and members may also call 1-888-554-4732 or go to any PEC office to request the materials. Members seeking nomination for a director position are required by Co-op bylaws to go through a petition process, which includes submitting nomination forms and gathering member signatures. Members seeking nomination have to maintain primary residence in the district they wish to represent. PEC’s Board District 1 mostly includes parts of Bell, Burnet, Lampasas, Travis and Williamson counties; District 6 mostly includes parts of Blanco, Comal and Hays counties; and District 7 includes parts of Caldwell, Hays and Travis counties. Verifiable signatures from at least 100 members, who either live within the Board district or have designated a voting residence within the district for which they are signing are required for nomination. Members seeking nomination may obtain a list of members within their Board district by contacting openrecords@peci.com or by calling 1-888-554-4732, Ext. 5163. Petition materials include instructions and forms for submitting petition information, forms for collecting member signatures and maps showing Board districts. Completed petition materials must be received at PEC headquarters by the Secretary of the Board by 5 p.m. on April 9. After verifying petition signatures and nominees’ qualifications, the Board plans to consider at its April 16 meeting the inclusion of candidates on the ballot. PEC has retained an independent election services provider to create, distribute, receive and tabulate ballots and handle other election matters. Ballots will be mailed to members by May 9, and members will be able to vote by mail, online or in person at the Cooperative’s June 23 annual meeting in Kyle. This is where election winners will be announced.
