*****Did you know that the Tooth Fairy was in Johnson City last week? She found time with all her tooth duties to visit the Kindergarten Classes at the LBJ Elementary School.
*****Rodney and Pat Hartmann and their daughters, Isabelle and Laura, traveled to Salado on Friday, May 2nd for Pats’ father’s family reunion. They stayed at the historic Stagecoach Inn, where the reunion was held. They report that it is a great facility with a pool, a fishing area, several restaurants and a meeting facility. The hotel backs up to the main shopping district in Salado. There were family members from all over Texas, and a few from out of state, about 50 people in all. Everyone had a wonderful time.
*****Trent, Kim, Sierra & Dakota Staton were in Central Texas for a family wedding this past weekend. Kim and Sierra along with Emily and Michala Zbytovsky had lunch and caught up on each others families.
*****Patty Carpenter’s mother, Bernice Micheli, died at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was a wonderful woman who lived to be 92. Bernice and her husband Mike moved to Johnson City in 1999 and recently moved next to Harry and Patty in their guest house. She will be missed by all who loved her. Chris and Debby Stevens and their daughter, April came in last week to visit her. Then a couple of days later Scott and Laurie Stevens and children, Cody, Evan, Luke, and Claire came to visit. They all wanted to spend some time with their sweet grandmother/great grandmother before she left for her new home in Heaven.
*****Laura Farmer’s son Kevin actually came home to Johnson City from Grandma’s house in Austin to visit Momma for Mother’s Day. They went to the JCVFD Fish Fry and spent some very needed mother and son time together.
*****Paul and Sherry Jenkins were at the Westin in San Antonio for this past week. They accompanied his Uncle Bob ‘Buster” Keeton to his American Volunteer Group reunion. He is the last living pilot of the second Squadron and the only pilot attending this year. They said it was quite an experience to have so many people who came to him and shook his hand and ask for his autograph. A different time and place and heroes! He just turned 93.
*****Alexus Crochet was honored with a birthday party on Friday, May 9 for her 10th birthday. The girls began with a swim at “Aunt Rhonda’s” and then went to Marble Falls for pizza and putt putt. Then to Alexus’s house for an “up all night” sleep over. Alexus’s birthday is actually May 10, but they celebrated a day early. Happy Birthday, Alexus!
*****Dawn Long, Sara Brown and Suree Birck among others kept the beverages flowing at the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry Saturday. Ellen Felps, Joy Watson, and Pat Dildine handled the raffle tickets. Todd Swift with his “beautiful” helper Ray Bible were a great Master of Ceremonies team! What an event!! I know there were people here from as far away as Burnet and Lake Jackson. (That was just my relatives!) Stay tuned elsewhere in this newspaper for more details.
*****Several boys and girls received awards at the First Baptist Church AWANA program on Wednesday, May 7. The AWANA program follows the school year and the kids earn awards for book completion and verse memorization. Way to go participants!! Keep up the good work.
*****Mary Garrett’s son, Ryan, and his girlfriend came to visit his mom for Mother’s Day. Ryan and Donnie spent Sunday morning digging up huge rocks out of the backyard where Mary is planting a new flower bed. Then Sunday evening they enjoyed a great meal at Mamacita’s in Fredericksburg.

*****The big Barbecue at the LBJ Ranch is Saturday, May 17. It begins at 4:00 with rides in LBJ’s look-a-like 1967 Lincoln Convertible around the ranch. The outdoor musical by the Ft Griffin Fandangle on the banks of the Pedernales River will begin at 5:30. The Fandangle consists of a cast of 100 from Albany, Texas who sing, dance and ride through a fast paced Historical reenactment of the west. This will be a once in a lifetime experience along with the Centennial Celebration of an LBJ style barbecue and country western music by the Bret Graham Band from Gruene Hall. Come join in the star filled night of fun. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the LBJ National Park as a fund raiser for helping the park provide educational events for the public and to provide funds for the restoration of significant historical items from the presidential years.
*****Many members of the Friends of the LBJ National Park met at the Educational Center of the NHP to make favors for the LBJ Barbecue to be held on May 17th at the Texas White House. Two days were spent painting, sanding, stamping, and gluing 500 miniature Texas cutouts that will be used for the bandanas. Helping with the fun were Sharon Hawkins, Cilla Goeken, Suzanne Milner, Kay Culp, Chelita Riley, Frana Keith, Princess Gruben, KBelle Conway, Julie Creighton, Karen Weber, Mary Ann Thurlkill, Norma Honeycutt and Peggy Welch.
*****You might be a Johnson City native if you remember when the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1949. This was because of the drugstore and Masonic Lodge burning downtown and the nearest fire department located in Blanco.
