Johnson City is really busting at the seams with activities for everyone, it seems our town has caught a spirit, whether it’s taking advantages of the programs at the library, starting a new project at your home or business, or attending the many events that are planned.

Let’s start with the library, Johnson City Reads is reading “The Capture” for May, the book discussion will be Tuesday May 20th, the daytime group will meet at 9:30 at the Methodist Activity Center for the discussion, Joel Honeycutt will be leading the group, then at 7 p.m. at Chantilly Lace, George Culp will be leading the discussion at the night meeting. There are more books available at the library for $5, sold out of the first order, but the new order is in, so stop by and pick up your copy of this fascinating book. Our June book will be I’ll Gather My Geese, by Halli Stillwell, these books should be available soon, and the date for the discussion will be June 17th.

On June 10th the library travelers will be headed to Kerrville to visit the Cowboy Artists Museum of America, to reserve your spot on the bus call the library, or Chris Voron, check the library corner in the paper for numbers, there is no charge and we will enjoy a sack lunch in the park by the river.

The much anticipated ground breaking for the new Johnson City Library will be June 7th, along with a town full of events, reunions, celebrations, a proud day for our town and county.

There are some projects happening also, that you can help with, or participate in, or do on your own. The Catch the Spirit volunteers are busy doing some painting, fixing, or improving around town. Check out the front of the County Annex, also the Garden Club is planning a project for June, our planters around the square are in need of a paint job, so watch out for the Garden Club ladies and their paint brushes, out to improve the look of one of their projects. Some of the businesses added umbrellas, flowers, chairs, and Viola a beautiful statement. A new flower bed at home can do the same thing, or a paint job on some old lawn chairs, its fun to be creative. Next time someone asks, What’s happening in Johnson City, fill them in, and ask them to Catch the Spirit, and join us!
