On Tuesday, August 31st, the Fredericksburg chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will host Brian and Shirley Loflin, photographers, authors and teachers. Brian is a biologist and a photographer whose work has been published in various national and international magazines, book and other publications. Brian’s photography has been displayed by several galleries and has won many awards. Shirley has lived her whole life as a naturalist studying birds, flowers and has worked with children in nature settings for years. Together as nature and photography tour leaders they conduct specialized regional events in destinations such as Mexico and Costa Rica. Together they have taught nature courses at the University of California, University of Texas and Lady Bird Wildflower Center. In 2006 they published the book "Grasses of the Texas Hill Country" which remains the standard field guide for grass identification and one I have used constantly since arriving in Texas. In 2009, they published "Texas Cacti", another field guide that I know will prove indispensible. Brian will be presenting slides of his fabulous photographs and teaching us about Texas cacti from a photographer naturalist perspective. Come meet Brian and Shirley at 312 West San Antonio Street in Fredericksburg at 7pm on August 31st.
