To the Editor,
We would like to know what happened to the good old days? When the July 4th parade was held in the mornings, and took place around the Court House. It was cooler than the time that has been chosen the past two years. My friends children started participating in the parade 10 years ago. We have watched the participation grow, and the number of spectators grow as well. It was enjoyed by all, while teaching the children the Patriotism of this day.
We noticed this year that there were not as many participating in the parade, and think this is due to the time of day it is taking place. At 6 p.m. is the hottest time of the day. This would seem to make it harder on the ones that usually walk, like the marching band, and the distance is longer.
We understand the Chamber of Commerce wanting to make this a way for everyone to prosper, but ask that they please keep in mind that we also are a small community, and like some of the old traditions that our children have been raised with.
The fireworks display was amazing as usual. Thank you JCVFD for putting on a wonderful display again. The sad part of this was that it was so crowded with people that we had to park at the back entrance of the fair grounds to watch it. At that distance we could not hear any of the Ceremony, which is known to be very moving.
Thank you. Tammy Crawford
