Letter to the Editor,

Several months ago a house burned down due to an electrical fire. The family living in the home escaped without injury, but with only what they were wearing at the time. There has been some community support, but not enough to get them back on their feet. The effects of this tragedy have been felt by this whole family.

The owner of the house, Aurelia Domingez, was allowing her daughter, Maricel and her children to live there when this happened. Someone generously paid for them to stay in a motel for two weeks, and then they were able to move into a 2 bedroom apartment. They also received clothes, food, and furniture from local help and the Red Cross.

The problem they are facing right now is the cleanup of the debris from the burned down home. Myra, another daughter of Ms. Domingez, had a dumpster put in to load the debris into. Someone from town filled it halfway with furniture and yard toys from their own house before the debris could be put into the dumpster. Myra had to pay almost $900.00 for the dumpster to be disposed of. With half of the contents belonging to someone else! This astronomical cost has made her own family suffer, as this took up most of her income.

Roy Burdett has generously offered to allow the debris to be hauled to his property to be burned. The problem is getting the man power and trailers to haul it. If anyone has the time and equipment to help with this endeavor, please contact me at 830-868-2150. I believe this would be a community service if some of the high school kids still need hours.

Also, if the family decides to rebuild, they are going to need all the help they can get. Please help me help these people in need. We are all their neighbors.

Thank you,

Bonnie Felps
