Hill Country Memorial’s Cancer Resource Center (CRC) will present a free educational program Tuesday, Aug. 3, for caregivers on managing a patient’s pain.
The class will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the CRC’s first-floor conference room in the Brune Professional Building, 808 Reuben Street in Fredericksburg.
Melanie Cole, RN, MSN, HCM Hospice clinical supervisor, will discuss barriers to pain control, types of pain and pain interventions. Brenda Bryson, an HCM physical therapist and licensed massage therapist, will discuss and demonstrate the benefits of myofascial massage which has been utilized successfully for patients who have experienced radiation scarring on different areas of their bodies.
The class is the third in a series designed to help caregivers at home. Upcoming sessions include meeting nutritional challenges and making food attractive for disinterested patients, as well as recognizing and treating swallowing problems (Aug. 10); pointers for managing accurate medical records and preparing Advance Directives and Medical Powers of Attorney (Aug. 17); and practical stress management techniques for caregivers (Aug. 24).
Participants may attend any or all of the classes. Although there is no charge, reservations are requested for planning purposes and can be made by calling the CRC at 830-990-6648.
