Nona Ellis, age 87 of Santa Anna, died Wednesday, May 26, 010 at Cross Country Nursing Home in Brownwood. Funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, may 29 at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Anna with Rev. Wayne Lewis officiating and assisted by Rev. Kermit Sorrells. Burial will follow at the Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan, Coleman.
She was born Nona Wells on April 24, 1923 in Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of George O. Wells and Stella Dixon Wells. She grew up in Coleman County most of her life and attended school at Mukewater, Trickham, White Flat and Buffalo. She graduated from Buffalo High School as the Valedictorian of her class.
On August 4, 1943 she married Cecil E. Ellis in Santa Anna and he preceded her in death on April 15, 1998. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Santa Anna.
Survivors included one son, Jerry Ellis and wife Cathy of Santa Anna; two daughters, Anita Jarvis and husbend Benny of Johnson City and Tammy Ellis of Richmond; five grandchildren, Bryce Ellis and wife Jamie of Lubbock, Jamie Strauss and husband Brian of Santa Anna, Alicia Ellis of Bedford, Gail Jarvis of McKinney, Cherly Zmolik and husband Matt of Corinth; five great-grandchildren, Seth and Ethan Ellis, Parker Strauss, Nathan and Madeline Zmolik; one sister, Oleane Welch of San Antonio; one brother, Oliver Wells and wife Frances of Farmington, NM; numerous nieces and nephews.
