Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center’s basketball summer day camp will take place June 14-18 at Lady Bird Johnson Park.
For children ages five through 12, the camp runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Children attending the basketball camp should bring a sack lunch, two snacks, water bottle, sunscreen, towel and swimsuit. Daily swimming at the park’s pool is included. Swimming levels of each camper are evaluated each week, and children are appropriately supervised based on swimming ability.
Children at this camp should also bring a basketball. "We’ll be doing fun basketball drills and skills all week," Jessie Aleman, youth programming coordinator at the Wellness Center, said.
There are eight more different weekly sessions coming up in the 2010 Fit Kids Summer Sports and Fitness Day Camp that run through mid-August. Sports and other activities take place in the morning, and kids will swim each afternoon at Lady Bird Johnson Park pool. Parents may sign up their children by the day, week or month, and payment is due at the time of registration. Cost is $40/day or $115/week, and parents will drop off and pick up their children at the park.
Upcoming sessions include camps for soccer (June 21-25), Ol’ Fashion Fun (June 28-July 2), baseball/softball (July 5-9), dance/Wheels, Inc. (July 12-16), nature/arts & crafts (July 19-23), tennis (July 26-30), crazy games (Aug. 2-6) and camping/fishing (Aug. 9-13).
Attendance at the camp is limited to 40 children per week, and enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents should call the Wellness Center at 997-1355 or stop by 1006 South State Hwy. 16 for more information or to enroll their children.
