Johnson City ISD, in accordance with the resolution recently passed by the U.S. Senate, would like to recognize the substitute teachers employed by the district and say ‘Thank You’ for their dedication and commitment to our students. The week of May 5-9, 2008 has been designated as the 7th Annual National Substitute Teacher Recognition Week. The resolution, S.R. 544, calls attention to the vital role substitute teachers play in the continuity of instruction and positive learning environment of students.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), author of the resolution states, “More often than not, these are talented individuals that are willing to take on the challenge of providing quality education when permanent teachers are out of the classroom. It is only appropriate that we do something to recognize the efforts of these members of our communities who fill a void in the education of our children and play a vital role in maintaining a positive learning environment for students throughout our country.”

Johnson City ISD employs approximately forty men and women, from Johnson City as well as surrounding communities, who actively assist the district when teachers are out of the classroom. Applicants go through a hiring and training process prior to being assigned to classroom duty. We would like to recognize these individuals and offer our heartfelt thanks.
