Blanco County Master Gardeners took a little time off from gardens and community volunteer projects in April to learn the art of flower pounding. Before the age of photography, explained Master Gardener Pat Owens, flower pounding was used in taxonomy as an essential method of preserving plant identification. Today, flower pounding is primarily an art form, producing an amazing array of colors and patterns on material.

During Johson City’s annual Wildflower Festival, the Blanco County Master Gardeners again had a plant booth, provided workshops throughout the day and answered horticulture questions from the public. In spite of the rain, the booth generated about $800 which will help finance a special Blanco County horiticulture booklet being prepared by the Master Gardeners.

May 11 at 2pm. The program for May’s meeting is "Spring Wildflower Garden and Rainwater Collection".

This meeting will be at the home of David and Susan Hamm. Susan will show her beautiful seasonal garden and raised bed garden while David will provide an overview of the Hamm’s rainwater collection system and answer rainwater installation questions.
