Take a stroll through the park with interpretive guides May 8th and 15th 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. to learn about nature and the wildflowers admired by Ladybird Johnson. Visitors will learn about the great outdoors and all the Texas Hill Country offers in the spring. We hope that you join us in remembrance of the legacy Ladybird left by walking the trails in her memory.

Above normal rainfall and warm temperatures have resulted in what promises to be the best wildflower season of the past five years at LBJ State Park. Current species blooming include Downy Phlox, Ten-petaled anemone, Scarlet Pea, Curvepod, Indian Paintbrush, and isolated Texas Vervain and Greenthread. Although the flowers may not be blooming in some areas, footsteps destroy the plants, preventing seed production for next year. We kindly remind our park visitors to stay on the designated trails and help us protect our delicate resources.

This year, LBJ State Park is part of a statewide program that promotes outdoor family activities at local parks, museums, and wilderness areas in the central Texas region. Families can pick up a nature challenge form at the park headquarters to accept the mission. A contest is underway to see who can complete the most missions. For more information on the nature challenge, please visit http://texasnaturechallenge.com.

Join us for a nature challenge, a walk down the nature trails, fishing on the Pedernales River, or take a step back in time at the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm. Bring your picnic lunch, binoculars, family and friends and enjoy a day in the great outdoors. Visit www.tpwd.state.tx.us or call 830-644-2252 for more information on outdoor activities throughout the state and at your local parks. Remember "Life’s Better Outside".
