What an awesome season! No, I’m not referring to autumn or the upcoming deer season. The LBJ Fighting Eagle High School band had an extraordinary marching season. Music was selected from the 80’s band STYX, which included “Mr. Roboto”, “AD 1928/Rockin’ the Paradise”, and “Too Much Time on My Hands”.
On October 20th the band traveled to Giddings for the District Marching Contest. Six 1A bands competed for an opportunity to advance to Area. Four of the six bands were eligible for this honor and the LBJ Fighting Eagle Band was one of them!
This past Saturday concluded the marching season for our band. The band departed LBJ High School in a chilly chartered bus at 5:30 am headed for the Area Marching Contest in Belton, TX. We were one of the six finalists out of thirteen 1A bands competing for advancement to the state level. Unfortunately, only three bands advanced to state. The judges had many positive comments about our band. They were impressed with the music selection and the complexity of the drill. They also commented on our sharp uniforms and what a powerful group we are!
Although we did not advance, we felt as though we had triumphed! We had many obstacles to overcome this year, especially being a state year. Mr. Anders, our new band director, selected music and a routine that was very challenging. He chose this music because he knew we could handle this challenge. Those of us who stuck it out met his expectations! (THANK YOU, MR. ANDERS for helping us set higher goals for ourselves!)
The LBJ Fighting Eagle Band would like to thank our band director, Mr. Bryan Anders, for believing in us and trudging through all the troubles and tribulations at the beginning of marching season. Thanks for “STYK”ing it out with us! We also could not have lasted without our assistant band director, Ms. Jennifer McCutchen. She was always there helping us with behind the scenes crisis’ (getting gum out of the uniform, polishing shoes, pinning, spraying hair and most importantly, getting her knee relocated!). Thank you, Ms. McCutchen!
Last but not least, we would like to thank our parents and Band Boosters for all the love and support they have given us this season. We always enjoyed the goodie bags before the contests. The hamburger meal at The Ranch restaurant in Belton was wonderful! A special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Spears (Jared’s parents) and Mr. and Mrs. Caulfield (Treyler’s parents) for the awesome, detailed painted signs they displayed in front of the high school for each band member! Thanks to all of the community who came out to the contests and gave their support! Your encouragement inspires us to do our best!
