The Johnson City baseball team continued their season this past couple of weeks by playing three district ballgames. The Eagles finished the first round of district by defeating the Comfort Bobcats by a score of 10-4. Johnson City opened up the second round of district play by hosting the San Antonio Cole Cougars and defeating them by a score of 11-1. In the third district ballgame, the Eagles were defeated by the Blanco Panthers by a score of 3-1.
In the game against Comfort, Luke Neely handled the pitching duties for the Eagles. Neely managed to limit a tough Comfort offensive team to 4 runs on 7 hits and struck out 11 Bobcat hitters. Neely is now 4-0 for the year and 2-0 in district play.
Offensively, the Eagles were led by Dylan Carter who went 2 for 4 in the game with a grand slam home run in the 4th inning which put the Eagles ahead 7-4. Cody Crofts, Aaron Humphrey and Treyler Caulfield all had 2 hits in the game which contributed to the 11 hit attack. Three other Eagles hit safely in the game, these included: Luke Neely, Trenton Rodriguez, and Laramie Blackwell who also had a solo home run in the fifth inning. Blackwell’s home run was his second of the year and started a 3 run rally for the Eagles.
This victory gave the Comfort Bobcats their first district loss and moved Johnson City into a tie for first place in district 27 AA.
In the second district game in the two week span, the Eagles hosted and defeated the Cole Cougars by a score of 11-1. Kris McDonald started on the hill for the Eagles and went four strong innings in the 10 run rule-6 inning shortened game. McDonald only gave up one run and scattered five hits while striking out three Cougar hitters on his way to his second victory of the year.
On the offensive side, Johnson City was led by Dylan Carter who went 3 for 4 for the contest. Luke Neely and Kris McDonald both collected 2 hits a piece for the Eagles and Aaron Humphrey, Jordan Jones and Trent Rodriquez also hit safely.
In the latest district game, the Eagles traveled to Blanco to face their cross county rival. The Eagles suffered their second district loss of the season to the Panthers by a score of 3-1. Luke Neely once again took the mound for the Eagles and turned in a superb performance on the hill. Neely gave up only three unearned runs as errors in the field hurt the Eagles defensively while scattering five hits and striking out five Panther hitters.
Offensively, the Eagles were led by Dylan Carter once again as he hit safely going 2 for 3. Collecting one hit a piece for Johnson City were Cody Crofts, Luke Neely and Laramie Blackwell.
The Eagles record now stands at 17-3 and 4-2 and are in a tie for second place in the district race. Johnson City has two district games left before the district playoffs start. Johnson City will host San Antonio Randolph and will travel to Comfort for their last district game.
