The cracking sound of flint rock being broken will be heard at Ft Martin Scott in Fredericksburg Thursday April 8 through Sunday April 11. Flint knappers from Texas and adjacent states will gather there to turn flint, chert, obsidian, agate, jasper, and other rocks into usable dart points, arrowheads, spear points, knives, specialty tools, and other replicas of prehistoric stone artifacts.

Ft. Martin Scott (established Dec. 5, 1848) is located on US 290 on the eastern edge of Fredericksburg not far from Wal Mart. Visitors are welcome at the event and admission is free. Show up anytime after 9 a.m. and stay as long as you like. Free parking will be available in the field on the south side of Ft. Martin Scott. You are welcome to watch, ask questions, and, if you are interested enough, you might even want to try your hand at this ancient art of tool making.

Knappers and vendors will be on-site throughout the event. Visitors will experience a unique opportunity to purchase beautiful handmade points, arrows, bows, primitive crafts and artwork, and even jewelry from these skilled craftsmen. Vendors always have knapping tools, supplies, and a wide variety of knappable rock on hand to meet the needs of both the beginning knapper as well as those who have been knapping for years.
