Few people write a book while in their 80’s and then attempt to get it published. But that is exactly what Peggy Stieler did. Peggy, who lived many years in Cypress Mill with her husband Bob, and is known by many in Johnson City, recently had the joy of seeing her book Me and My Human come out in print.

Co-authored with her friend, Janet Curfman, the book was inspired by a kitten Peggy adopted one month after the death of her husband. Named after the character "Chester," who had a distinctive limp on the classic T.V. show Gunsmoke, her black and white kitten had an injured leg when she brought him to live with her at Gateway Assisted Living Center in Marble Falls, where she now resides. Through lots of love and nurturing, Peggy helped Chester heal, and he, in turn, helped her heal from her grief.

The book was undertaken as a story for children, but has proven to be a life-lesson for adults as well, Peggy said.

"God uses His little creatures to help us in life," Peggy went on to say, referring to the way animals can help us get through times of grief, illness and many other trials.

A special book signing with both Peggy and Janet will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Cypress Mill on April 17, from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend this event. St. Luke’s is located at 263 Spur 962. The office phone number is (830) 825-8001.
